The largest dogfighting crackdown in history rescued more than 500 tortured pit bulls. But the next step is tougher: rehabilitating and finding homes for canines who have known nothing but violence

I am always grateful to see anything that brings the plight of animal abuse to the public's awareness. I was also glad to see that this article brought up the money, time, and effort that these dogs take- and take away from other healthy, innocent, family dogs being euthanized every day for much less reason than coming from a fighting background....The hardest questions...Thanks to all of us who speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

I sometimes feel like I'm on a crusade against dominance and positive punishment methods. Always happy to share, and it's so gratifying to share with people of like mind.

Long way of saying you're more than welcome.

What an interesting read. It shows there is much more to dogs than it being "just an animal".

People and dogs in my classes love this! I use jumps, tunnels and rally to mix things up as well as basic obedience. Such a welcome change from the die hard classes I use to teach years ago.

Excellent article. It's so true that when you show your students how to bond with their dogs, training becomes fun. It's like watching the losing football team through that "Hail Mary" and scoring that winning touch down. When the bond with your dog "hits," you just light up like a bolt of lightening and want to keep going and going!

Dogs need rules or they'll make up their own. I keep trying to explain to people that just "running the dog" isn't exercise enough. They need to work out the brain as well. Make them focus, teach a new command. Tire out the whole animal. That's right ANIMAL. I love my dog dearly, he is part of my family and he knows what he's allowed to do and what... See More he's not allowed to do because I am consistent and clear in his training. No force required just a lot of repetition and reward, whether a little piece of chicken or a scratch behind the ear, for the correct behavior.

You absolutely cannot truly appreciate your dog unless you appreciate the things that make them who they are... and that means accepting them as the dogs they are. They don't need to be labeled as "kids in fur coats" for us to love, value and learn from them!
