Entertainment Consumers Association As gamers, we need to be aware of how our hobby impacts the world and work proactively to insure that it's as green as possible. The energy consumed while playing video games and the resources that go into the production of game consoles and other consumer electronic devices all have an environmental impact.

S.1397 woul...d fund research and programs to expand recycling of consumer electronics, like game consoles, ensuring proper disposal of any harmful chemicals in them, and the recycling reuse of components. S. 1696 asks the Secretary of Energy to insure that game consoles have reasonable electricity consumption rates in line with other consumer electronic devices.

Our hobby is often experienced from the comfort of our home, but there's an environmental cost, and we should work to lower that cost where we can. Please take the few seconds to write your Senator today and help spread the word by telling your friends.

Bob, you're wrong. Trash leaks pollutants and take up landspace, which results in less land to grow trees, and trees reduce pollutants. It also creates a lot more pollutants to manufacture plastics than it does to recycle plastic.

The word recycle means to use an item again. That is not what is done with plastics, paper and usually not even glass. The only 'real' recycling is done in an individual's home where they might fill an empty milk jug or juice bottle with another beverage. The recycling facility shreds, mulches, melts, etc. whatever they are recycling and make a new... See More product from the results and usually they have to mix in some new materials as well since recycled material is inferior without any additives. So a 'recycled' product has gone through two manufacturing processes whereas something tossed into a landfill has only gone through the process once. Many landfills have been covered over and made into parks with grass and trees where I live. So essentially the landfill is a temporary eyesore and then becomes a permanent place of recreation. Dangerous chemicals and other items that would do harm to the environment should be disposed of in a safe manner, however, some things are safe to place in a landfill - forever.
