Kuvy Ax

Kuvy Ax It was also a sad day at FIG as Julie is moving "back home" to Minneapolis MN this weekend. Thank goodness she'll still be working with us from afar! We love you Julie!!

Kuvy Ax

Kuvy Ax I *love* the fact that the FIGs get together every year to make pies for Thanksgiving. This was my 4th year. Truly something to be grateful for! It gave me a chance to learn more about a newer FIG, Amanda (LOL!); and also to learn a lot about pie crust decorating from Sylvia, who has made thousands of pies in her past life at Alfalfa's...

Jen Marshall Its Pie Day at FIG today and on this year's menu is organic apple pie. I'm going GF so I think I'll make mine into a crumble or crisp like on the top, since I can't imagine a GF crust would spread well.

Claire

Claire I ventured to the Rock Creek Farm (husband in tow) in search of great pumpkins for my fresh bucks challenge. Since pumpkin bread and other yummy pumpkin treats become a regular thing in my house this time of year, I thought I'd try a new recipe I recently came across...pumpkin dog treats for our pup. Here is the easy r...ecipe (just make sure your furry friend doesn't have any wheat allergies):

You'll need:
2 eggs
1/2 cup pumpkin (this can be fresh or canned, just not spiced)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons dry milk
2 1/2 cups flour (you can use wheat or white)
water as needed

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees f.
2. Blend eggs and pumpkin together; add salt, dry milk, and flour
3. Add water as needed to make dough somewhat workable
4. The dough should be dry and stuff, don't be concerned with crumbs
5. Mix with your hands as the dough will be too stiff for an electric mixer
6. Roll to 1/2 inch thick
7. Cut into shapes and place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet
8. Bake for 20 minutes on one side, then turn over and bake for another 20 minutes
9. Let cool for at least 20 minutes

The Fresh Ideas Group For my (this is Julie Lunn posting) FIG pumpkin Fresh Bucks challenge, I tried a new weekend recipe: Pumpkin-Walnut Flapjacks.
The husband is usually the weekend pancake maker in our house, but I went for it and successfully assembled the batter, which included whipped egg whites for fluffiness, with the aid of my 19 m...onth old daughter. Coffee was an important sous chef as well. The best part about these cakes is that they made the house smell awesomely fall-like.
The discerning critics at my house rated them: "good, a different take on your usual cake---so fluffy the inside is almost creamy"
and
"Pan-cake" followed by "more" followed by lots of licking up syrup and avoiding the pancake altogether.
Here's a link to the recipe from epicurious: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Pumpkin-Walnut-Flapjacks-108613

At some point in college I read an essay on writing about character development. The general sentiment was something like: At the heart of great writing is character development – that of the author’s. So, we’re doing this new thing at FIG. You ...
