Today is Veterans Day. Our country is at war, and last week, we experienced an unusual and very tragic shooting spree at one of our military bases. still sooo expensive! I got $778 a month for the PPO plan...I think it really shows how much health care needs to be reformed when a great and knowledgeable organization still has such high premiums for heath insurance...

Thanks for your questions. My office administers the UUA Health Plan which has its own Board. Only employees of congregations, districts, the UUA national staff, etc are eligible because it is an employer-based ERISA plan. For others, we would have to re-incorporate as an insurance company and gain approval by regulators in each state. Rev . Richard Nugent, Director, Office of CHurch Staff Finances

Nan, that's great, and it sounds like a description of All Souls in DC, except for the Christian aspects. I'll have to ask my brother about Reconciliation Ministry ... Read MoreNetworks. He just got a new church that was once part of a southern Methodist group where there was racial discrimination, so he has a great deal to work on with them!

sad times continue!
Bishop Spong: “...equality of citizenship is not something that should ever be submitted to a referendum. Equality under and before the law is a solemn promise conveyed to all our citizens in the Constitution itself. Can any of us imagine having a public referendum on whether slavery should continue, whether segregation should be dismantled, whether voting privileges should be offered to women?"

On a brighter note, the more modest "Everything but Marriage Act" #71, is passing in Washington State. It does not provide for same sex marriage, but a registration can provide all of the rights (and liabilities) of a marital couple.

Seya I recently joined the congregation in Sacramento, whose ministerial staff and members demonstrated unprecedented care and compassion for a relative stranger when it was most needed. Not even people whom I called friends were willing to help me the way UU people have. I'm grateful for the existence of this religion or philosophy or whatever one wishes to call it. ♥
