Theatre of the People is looking forward to closing out Project SF! Thanks to the TOP ACT Players for making the start of Season Two a great success.

Theatre of the People is a week away from OPENING NIGHT of Project SF! See you there!

Theatre of the People
Bloomington, IN - Theatre of the People (TOP), a new non-profit theatre company based in Bloomington, is proud to present "The Science Fiction Fair:" H.G. Wells’ The Invisible Man and Karel Capek’s Rossum’s Universal Robots (R.U.R), a one-act double feature of Playing God.
The Invisible Man is the story of a brilliant s...cientist whose experiment goes horrible awry when he accidentally turns himself invisible without a remedy. As he flees to a different town and hides in an Inn hoping to cure himself, mysterious things begin happening in the town and he seems to be the primary suspect. Directed by Pat Anderson, a local playwright, director, and Ensemble of Artists Member at the Bloomington Playwrights Project, this show is based on the novel written by H.G. Wells.
Rossum’s Universal Robots (R.U.R.), written in the 1920s, is the strange foretelling of a society manned by Human-like Androids, or Robots. In an attempt to improve the Robots, pain receptors are added and experiments are performed to give them a soul. This plan backfires, however, when the Robots become self-aware and stage a violent rebellion. The humans are now dependant on the Robots for labor and the Robots dependant on the humans for their own creation and maintenance. The struggle for power results in an all-out war and neither side comes out as a particular winner. The term ‘Robot’ is rumored to have been coined due to the release of this play.
Performances are October 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24, 2009 at 8pm and October 17 and 24, 2009 at 2pm at the John Waldron Arts Center Rose Firebay.
Tickets are $10 General Admission available at the box office. Season tickets are available as well and may be purchased at the box office or by contacting TOP.
