As an Army Ranger, Monty Reed had a parachute accident in 1986. While in the hospital, he was told “Get used to being in a wheelchair because he would never walk again. While under-going intensive therapy, he read a copy of “Starship Troopers”, by Science Fiction Author, Robert Heinlein. Chapter 7 inspired Monty, to design a robotic “exo” suit for himself,
Monty is now Executive Director of THEY SHALL WALKtm. While attending N. Seattle Community College he created prototype #1 in a broom closet in their basement. At the University of Washington Monty graduated with a major in Biosynthetics. He has been recognized as two-time NASA Space Grant Scholar and a Mary Gates Scholar. He was also selected to the National Honor Society.
At this time Prototype #15 is being developed in “dry-dock” at our lab in Shoreline, WA. More research is needed to bring the LIFESUITtm and its successor prototypes to widespread use.
The largest factor in bringing the LIFESUITtm to market is money for R & D and for medical trials. THEY SHALL WALK tm is a National Heritage Foundation (NHF) and all contributions are handled by NHF.
