I have a question about filling out the online application.
In section 11 number 7 & 8 they ask if you have filed a MD tax return and is state income tax being withelf from your paycheck. I selected no for both of these options and in the little explanation box below each I said that "I was not employed in the past 12 ...months" and "I am not employed however if I was employed state income tax would be witheld from my paycheck." respectively.
In section 14, I assume that I should just copy and paste my academic resume and my essay into this box, you don't want the auctual .doc files. Just making sure.
And I was wondering, once I send everything in will I recieve some kind of notification (email, telephone, etc.) saying "We have recieved your application and are now considering it for acceptancee" or something like that just so I know you got everything you needed?

Hey Josh,

Everything seemed fine with your application question. You can always call 1-888-4-TOWSON if you have specific aplication questions.

There is not a confirmation notification when your application is received. You can call that same number and someone can look to see if the application is in order. Otherwise a decision letter is usually mailed within 4-6 weeks of receipt of the application.... Read More

Hope that helps!

I am currently applying to TU and have seen that the average GPA is usually listed as between 3.48 and 3.54. I have a 3.36 weighted GPA (on a 4.0 scale, grades 9 - 11) and I'd say that I've taken alot of honors courses (I usually took them whenever there was the option) and a good deal of AP Classes (I took Euro in 10t...h grade (3 on AP test), Psychology/US History/Language in 11th (got a 4 on all tests), and I'm currently enrolled in Environmental Science, Human Geography, Lit, and Statistics). I got a 1750 on the SAT (plus I'm still waiting on the score from the Oct. 09 test) and I've read that the average at TU is 1500 - 1700. Does the fact the I have taken so many honors/ AP's and gotten a 1750 on the SAT buy me a little room with a 3.36 GPA, would I be in the situation where you might want to look at my grades in 12th? Where do you draw the line between what is an acceptable GPA and what isn't?Read More

Hey Josh,

There really isn't a line of what is accepted and what isn't. There is no minimum GPA that is accepted. The Admissions Department takes all of the classes that you took into consideration. You can choose to write the optional essay and you could use this opportunity to talk about this. Just keep in mind that the Admissions Department considers the whole of your application when making a decision, not just one part. Hope that helps!

Sharmaine Miller

Sharmaine Miller I went on the Towson website and looked at the Gen Ed Requirements, I was wondering the list of courses given are they just suggestions or are they the only courses Towson will accept? I plan to take some college courses during my senior year and I was wondering if they would transfer or not.

Hey Sharmaine, it's a great idea to take college courses during your senior year! If you are talking about AP classes, here is the Web site that shows which classes transfer and what grade you need on the AP test: http://www.towson.edu/main/admissions/freshman/applying/AdvancedPlacement.asp. For Gen Ed Requirements, there are lots of different classes you can take to fulfill certain requirements. Here's the link for that: http://www.towson.edu/registrar/Degree/geneds/

DeMarcus Hey I am interested in Towson and will be a transfer student from NC. I saw the number of credit hours are 30. At the end of this school year I will have a total of 30. Should I still apply now?

Hey DeMarcus,

Does your semester end in the fall or the spring? You should apply the semester before you plan to attend Towson.

If you have at least 20 credits, the admission department does not usually require you to submit your high school transcripts. If you have less than 20 when applying then you may be required to submit your high school transcripts.... Read More

If you have any more specific questions you can call the Admissions Department at 1-888-4-TOWSON!

my semster ends in the spring. At the end of this semster I will have 16 credit hours. Last year I took classes that don't transfer anywhere. So I had to make up for that this year.

OK. They may need a high school transcript or possibly SAT/ACT scores. I think the best thing for you to do would be to call the Admissions Department to talk about your specific situation. Their number is 1-888-4-TOWSON. Hope that helps!

Hey Imani,

After looking at your question again I was a bit uncertain about what your specific situation is. I think it might be best if you were to call 1-888-4-TOWSON and speak to someone there about this. I'm not saying that their answer will necessarily be any different but it will be good to make sure that this is accurate for your situation. You can feel free to ask us any more questions that you have as well.

Hey Tim,

This is copied and pasted from the following website:
http://www.towson.edu/music/general_information.pdf
... Read More
"The Department of Music at Towson University offers scholarships to applicants who qualify based upon the talent demonstrated during their audition coupled with an assessment of applicants’ academic profiles. Scholarships are available only to students who major in music and who enter in the fall term. Those students wishing to be considered for departmental scholarships MUST audition by February 6, 2010. There is no separate application process. Only those applicants who have filed a university application, have paid the university application fee, and who have had their university applications processed by the TU Office of Admissions will be considered for music department scholarships."

There is more information about both the Music Performance Major and Minor at this site so be sure to check it out.

Hope that helps!
