Traidcraft It's International Tea Day and we're calling on the big five tea companies to go Fairtrade.

As more and more companies move into Fairtrade, isn't it time that the tea companies followed suit? Over 165 million cups of tea are drunk in the UK every day, but less than 10% are Fairtrade.

We've launched a new online action t...o ask the UK’s five biggest tea brands – PG Tips, Tetley, Yorkshire Tea, Twinings, and Typhoo – to Make it Fair and go Fairtrade. Please join us.

Fairtrade is the only scheme which guarantees tea producers a minimum price for their tea and gives an extra premium payment to invest in their community - and we think that's only fair. If you haven't had the chance to send a postcard to the big five brands yet, here’s an easy way to do it online.

Hi Phil, we really appreciate your comments. The question on the ETI is one we get asked a quite a lot, so it was good to be able to explain the campaign more fully. Thanks for your support.

Traidcraft welcomes the news that Nestlé is to convert its top-selling chocolate bar KitKat to Fairtrade and the positive impact this will have on the lives of thousands of small-scale cocoa farmers in the Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

Traidcraft As so many of you liked our last story about fair trade in India, we thought you might be interested in an update on a training session run by Traidcraft Exchange. Do take a look at this blog entry from Shop for Change to find out more about the issues facing cotton farmers.

Helen

Helen Does anybody else read New Scientist? In the 28th November issue there is an article about "Inconspicuous Consumption" (the damage we're doig to the planet with everyday products) by Dave S. Reay.
One of the products featured is Toilet Paper! There is a chart asking "How green is you toilet roll?" which toilet paper co...mes out top on ethical rating? Traidcraft's of course...be proud of yourselves everyone:)

John McCreesh

John McCreesh I went on a 'People to People' tour three years ago. We often wonder what's happening at the various producer groups we met, and how we can help (other than by promoting their products :-). Would it be a good idea to help producers to sign up to a scheme like GlobalGiving http://www.globalgiving.co.uk/index.html ?

Thanks for the suggestion, John. We will certainly look into it.

If you could let me know which groups you visited, we will try to give a brief update on them.

And do keep promoting their products. The main thing that producers always say is that they want "more orders".
