Dean Williams remembers always having music around the house as a child. His dad played Jimi Hendrix, Al Green, Beethoven, Mongo Santamaria, Hugh Masekela, Glenn Miller, as well as numerous calypso and reggae artists, with even Andrew Lloyd Webber thrown in the mix!
His first instrument was the guitar. At 4 years old he began to play along with television theme songs as fast as he could hear them and was soon given his first guitar lesson by his dad. For awhile he self-taught with books at home until he was sent to Pan Piper's Music School, which he attended throughout elementary school up till high school. It was while at high school, Hillview College, he joined the school band staying active in it until graduating. After leaving, he began entering and actually won several amateur talent shows. This was a turning point for him and he began seriously crafting a musical career, which involved, studying privately with local classical guitar teachers while referencing the Berkeley College syllabus at home. During this time, he also simultaneously performed with 5 bands in the multiple genres of rock, pop, heavy metal, latin, as well as soca.
While honing his onstage skill he started a studio recording career which to date has covered 100's of tracks with many artistes including those of soca, rapso, world beat, pop and reggae also adding gospel to his bag most recently, together with quite a few television and radio jingles.
These experiences with artistes foreign and local alike encouraged him to produce songs and riddims alongside local producers and in time he went on to record acts on his own. Music has taken him on tour all through most of the Americas, Europe and parts of Asia. Over the years, though performing heavily, he has continuously written his own compositions either on the guitar or keyboard.
After slowing down on his touring schedule and a short stint of study in Medical Health, he decided it was time to get his music together and to start producing and performing his own material again.
Currently he is still in the process of sifting thru 100’s of his songs on paper, mini discs, adats and cds he has collected over time. He plans to begin a solo recording career alongside his other pursuits. His first 11 track album is due out early next year.
