UMass Amherst In an amazing research breakthrough, Prof. Neil Forbes, chemical engineering, has developed a delivery and trigger system to place a cancer-fighting protein directly into solid tumors and to activate it on cue. Experiments show the 30-day survival time of mice with mammary tumors improved from 0 to 100 percent. GO UMass!

Hi, there are summer classes available, but most students choose to go back home. I will check into living opportunities, but I think many of the the residence halls close over the summer so most students who are here, live off campus. Still Amherst is most beautiful during the summer and a lot of people stay and do research and work. What else can we help you with? Best, Lisa

UMass Amherst TIME magazine names Geobacter, a microbe discovered by Prof. Derek Lovley and his research team at UMass Amherst, one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2009. This microbe generates electricity and some day soon, Geobacter will be used in fuel cells to create clean electricity. GO Green and GO UMass!

Bacteria have always gotten a bad rap. But we should be thankful for one especially talented microbe, Geobacter, which has tiny hairlike extensions called pili that it uses to generate electricity...

Hi, I was not sure if you are living in the U.S. or in Columbia from your initial note. if you are coming to the U.S. from another country, there are some additional steps to the application process that can be addressed by the International Programs Office. If you already reside in the U.S. then you just need to apply through the graduate school. Sorry for any confusion. Have a great weekend.
