-as both Fire Fighter/Medic and former resident of "The Garden State", I personally GREATLY appreciate the willingness to get "involved". Knowing what skills are required to drive the NJTP "on a good day", I can only imagine how tricky this was to pull off! Well done!

Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen

Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen We just participated in the change of command at Station Castle Hill where CWO Kevin Galvin was relieved as Commanding Officer by CWO Tom Guthlein. It was also the change of watch of the Ancient Keeper our senior and spiritual leader of our Boat Forces. First time a change of Keepers coincided with a change of command. Kevin retired after 32 years of service. Good luck Kevin and welcome aboard Tom.

CWO Guthlien is going to be a fine OIC at Castle Hill.
He and I served together in 1983-1984 on CGC Active. He was and remains one of the best boat handlers I have ever known.

Josh Carney

Josh Carney Admiral,
I just wanted to send you a quick note about the great men and women that represent the Coast Guard at Station Georgetown in South Carolina. I have had the opportunity to work with this excellent group on many operations both in the ocean and in our rivers. They are always professional and ready to help with anything. A special thanks to BM2 Amen and BM1 Williams for teaching our entire fire department basic navigation and search patterns over 3 days. While Station Georgetown may be relatively small, they are a huge asset to our department and the surrounding area.

Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen

Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen We just had a tremendous Coast Guard Foundation Dinner in Washington this evening highlighted by Secretary Napolitano and LTG John Allen, Deputy Commander, US Central Command. The dinner chair was Linda Beane, grandaughter of L.L. Bean. She was terrific as well. Thank you CG Foundation for what you do for us.

James N. Koshar

James N. Koshar Another good day in the United States Coast Guard! I am the retired LT in the middle with the Neatrour sisters… Mary Kate on the right is entering her 3rd year (2/C) at the CG Academy as a member of the Class of 2011. Her sister Julianna is on the left and I presented her appointment to the Academy a few weeks ago. She reports into New London on Monday, 29 June for her Swab Summer and member of the Class of 2013. Their brother John also received a USA ROTC scholarship. Our Nation is in good hands with these exceptional young people. Semper Paratus!

Connie Braesch

Connie Braesch Spencer, I see your question too. I think I can explain that one as well...

The primary job of the Officer is the pilot so they are not available to perform the rescue swimmer role. Additionally, only enlisted personnel in the rating of Aviation Survival Technician are authorized the aircrew duty of Rescue Swimmer, in accordance with Coast Guard policy (COMDTINST 1000.6 Chapter 6.B).

Connie Braesch

Connie Braesch Sorry Jamie for misspelling your name! Oops

Connie Braesch

Connie Braesch Hi Jaimi, I saw your question about Auxiliary access to CG Central and I think I have some insight for you...

CG Central is being disposed of in the next six months and is being replaced by CG Portal. CG Portal is currently in development of its Phase II release which is due out in September 2009. Phase II will add the capability for those Coast Guard users with a Common Access Card (CaC) to access CG Portal from any Internet connection. But, it won't be until Phase IV of CG Portal when users (like Auxiliarists) will have access to portions of it from the Internet with a username and password.

While there is no firm date for the release of Phase IV, it should be out around June 2010 (that is if Phase II & III stay on schedule). I know they are working hard to bring access to CG Portal for both the Reserve and Auxiliary components.

Hope this helps!
