Under 100. It dates back to 2007 at Oakmont when in a post-round interview Tiger stated that the playing conditions of the course were so difficult that no 10-handicapper could break 100. From this statement, the U.S. Open Challenge was born.

U.S. Open Championship Twenty of the game’s elite amateurs gather this weekend at historic Merion G.C. in Ardmore, Pa., for the 42nd Walker Cup Match, which pits a 10-man team from the USA facing a similar squad from Great Britain and Ireland in a two-day Ryder Cup-style competition.

The Championship begins with 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. The field is cut to the low 64 players for match play after Tuesday’s round. Match play begins on Wednesday and continues until the 36 hole final on Sunday.

Garth, thanks for the comment. Growing the game of golf is a core mission of the USGA, and the rule change was made to ensure that player skill and not technology remains the dominant factor to success in golf.

I have to throw out my boots All the sneaker companies are going to make alot of money this week. I am a tiger fan but don't feel bad for him they all had the same course to play on he just did not make any birdies and the misses left him long par putts
