D r. Loffreda is an associate professor in the University of Wyoming’s English Department and is director of Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts program. She has written about Wyoming in Losing Matt Shepard: Life and Politics in the Aftermath of Anti-Gay Murder (Columbia University Press), which was a finalist for th...e Stonewall Book Award, and has been invited to speak about queer politics at universities around the country. Dr. Loffreda has won UW's Ellbogen Meritorious Teaching award, the Jason Thompson Commitment to Diversity award, and Top Ten Teacher, among other honors.

Loffreda examines the events surrounding the murder of Matt Shepard. At the time of the... murder, Loffreda was the faculty advisor to UW's LGBTA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Association.) With many interviews, she reveals the impact of the crime on local gays and lesbians. Loffreda points out the concern that national gay and lesbian organizations had about the crime's media impact versus their relative lack of concern with actual LGBTA persons living in Wyoming. She investigates how Laramie law enforcement, journalists, and criminal justice personnel were affected by the crime and the subsequent national media attention it received.Read More
