Carnes, Caitlin Giles, Haley Kornfield and Josh Kornfield, of the UM Ethics Team who are headed to the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl in Cincinnati in March to
represent the University of Miami as they compete for the 2009
championship. Robert Levine, a business major, is also on the team. Way to go!

University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences Open Mic on Friday, Nov. 13: USpeak, Open Verse and Story Performance Series, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oasis Deli Cafe in the University Center at the Gables Campus. Hosted by the Creative Writing Program, this week's USpeak features Matt Gajewski, radio host of Pure Imagination on 90. 5 WVUM. Gajewski is known for his... darkly comic short stories set to music by fellow UM composers, as well as improvised faux documentaries about subjects ranging from the complicated lives of urban werewolves to troubled magicians. The event is free.

dedicated to Philippines Flood Relief. During the week of Sept. 25,
2009, Tropical Storm Ketsana pounded the islands of the Philippines
displacing more than one million people, just before a second storm,
Typhoon Parma, hit. More than 300 wer...e killed. UHelp: a special USpeak
event takes place 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Oasis Deli Cafe at the UC on the
Gables Campus to raise funds. Sign up to read a poem, sing, play music

Opera Theatre presents "Six Operas in Sixty Minutes" at 8 p.m., tomorrow, Oct. 13,
and two of the mini-operas will be based on books by Jane Alison, assistant professor, English. With a stunning score by Thomas Sleeper, one of the
librettos is based on Alison’s The
Sisters Antipodes, a memoir and a People maga...zine book pick. The other mini-opera, with music by
Raina Murnak, is inspired by Alison’s The
Marriage of the Sea, a New York Times
Notable Book. “Six Opera in Sixty Minutes” takes place at the Maurice Gusman
