I want to publicly thank Dr. Herbert Schwartz for the years he served as my oncologist. I had a cancerous tumor on my femur that was discovered by accident. I was referred to Dr. Schwartz by my ortho here in Indiana. I had several surgeries, but was declared cancer free a number of years ago. I still believe if not... for Dr. Schwartz, I would have lost my leg. He was always there to listen to my concerns and always had the greatest bedside manner, which means the world to a scared cancer patient. All these years later, I still consider him to be a member of my family. He is a wonderful doctor and human being.Read More

Cervical cancers are slow growing. Known to be caused -- in most if not all cases -- by infection with HPV. And the guidelines had already bee...n changing to reduce frequency if women had several "all-clear" tests in a row. NPR's story was a good one. Listen to audio at link below.Read More

Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Kudos to Gail Kerr at the Tennessean for sharing her story about kicking the habit and encouraging others to do so for the Great American Smokeout. (By the way, we know from first-hand experience that her description of the newsroom back in the day is spot-on.)

Everybody smoked, cussed and drank. It was marvelous. I learned a lot of valuable lessons, some terrific words I couldn't use at home, and picked up a few bad habits. Smoking being number one on that list.
