Madeleine Hi Jessie - My 2.5 yo girl was just diagnosed with molloscum contagiousum (warts). She just has about a dozen spots on one elbow and a few on the other elbow. I decided to have my doctor spray them with liquid nitrogen..to just kill what was visible in the hope that it will nip this in bud. Do you have any recommendations for this virus?

Cassie Blackburn Soule What are your thoughts about the whole cow's milk debate. I had gone to soy milk for awhile, but Dr. Kalb's NP told me not to do it. I don't think we can get raw milk down here. At least not that I've found. So now what?

That is a toughie - I do agree with the NP about the soy milk - generally not a good idea. Have you tried the local farmer's market? Sometimes you can find pasteurized but not homogenized milk like Hatcher dairy has here in Middle TN. Or call around local health conscious groups like LLL or Westin Price? You could also post on the Vintage Remedies message boards and maybe find someone local that has found a better solution.

Madeleine Hi Jessie - Just a quick question. I give my kids a blend of echinacea/astragalus to boost their immune system during the cold/flu season. Should I avoid the astragalus if they have a fever? Thank you for your help!

Hi Madeleine, Some Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners consider astragalus to be contraindicated during a fever, but that was primarily a theoretical contraindication and is not typically advised anymore. Western herbalism has never considered a fever to be a contraindication, and many herbalists (myself included) use it regularly with colds / flu - fever or not. So, you might see it listed in some older books, but it is not a real concern. : )
