Visit Arlington,Texas FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 26, 2009Contact:Mark A. GistArlington Fire Combat Committee / AFCC4101 W. Green Oaks Blvd. #305-585Arlington, TX 76016817-996-4732info@arlingtonfcc.com US Nationals - Firefighter Combat Challenge“The Toughest Two Minutes in Sports” WHO: Firefighters from around the country WHAT: Scott ...Firefighter Combat Challenge—FREE to the public WHEN: October 30, 4:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m., and October 31, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. WHERE: Six Flags Hurricane Harbor parking lot at 1800 E. Lamar Blvd. Additional Information: The Arlington Fire Combat Committee in cooperation with the Arlington Professional Firefighters Local 1329 is bringing the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge (FCC) to North Texas. This challenge is not just any combat event, but the Spartan U.S. Nationals and is FREE to the public. Don’t miss seeing firefighters from the Dallas / Fort Worth area and across the United States compete in what is deemed the “Toughest Two Minutes in Sports.”The Challenge is an intense, spirited competition that seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrates the profession's rigors to our stakeholders- the citizens who support their local departments. Unlike sports that exist solely for entertainment value, the Challenge is about performing one of the most dangerous and demanding jobs safer and better. It is a competition with a purpose. The Challenge: Wearing full bunker gear and a Scott breathing apparatus, pairs of firefighters will simulate the physical demands of real life firefighting by competing on a linked series of five tasks. The competition will begin with climbing a five story tower carrying a 42 pound high-rise hose pack, where they will then hoist a hose roll to the top. Next, they will descend to the ground floor where they simulate chopping by swinging a 9 pound shot mallet on the end of a 160 pound steel beam. They will then zigzag 140 feet through simulation hydrants to the fourth station where they advance an attack hose a distance of 75 feet. Finally, competitors will drag a life sized, 175 pound "victim" a distance of 100 feet to the finish line. Corporate Cup Challenge: This is the opportunity for all the corporate sponsors to show what they’re made of. Watch as they function as a five person team and tackle the same five tasks the professional firefighters do. Kid Challenge Course: For the little firefighters at heart there will be a course set up just for them. Each child will be outfitted with a helmet and mock turn-out gear. In order, each child will carry a shoulder load of hose, climb to the top of our 12 foot inflatable tower and slide to the bottom where they “stop, drop and roll.” They will then crawl through a tunnel, work a miniature Keiser Force Machine with the supplied mallet, advance a one inch wildland fire line with authentic nozzle striking a target and then finally making the rescue with an appropriately sized mannequin. This action-packed, educational challenge makes a great FREE family weekend. For more information about this event please visit www.arlingtonfcc.com, or www.firefighterchallenge.com.
