VolunteerMatch Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Do you have any plans to volunteer this holiday season?

I came across this great project called the Rice Dinner Project. A creative way to help out this holiday season. http://ricedinner.org/

The Rice dinner proposition: Trade places with someone less fortunate, eating one 'rice-only' meal each month; then give the money you saved to a hunger charity.

Southern Oregon. I sit on the BOD. It is an elected position I volunteered to be elected to. But for my first year I was a first responder and secretary to the chief.

For most of us, grocery shopping, laundry, and cleaning the house are just items on a never-ending to-do list. But for Michele Ogden, these tasks can mean the difference between keeping a senior citizen independent in their own home and having to be put into a home...

VolunteerMatch The VolunteerMatch e-mail system had a bit of a snag that stopped the delivery of the October Volunteer Newsletter. We've fixed it, but it has come to our attention that many of you will receive the newsletter today -- two weeks after it's delivery! We're so sorry for this and hope that the contents are still enjoyable, if just a bit dated.

I use YahooGroups to work with other volunteers working at nonprofits we're all involved with, I use LinkedIn to list my volunteering opportunities, I use Facebook and MySpace to be a "fan" of nonprofits I support as a volunteer or as a donor.

Thanks to you all for sharing. Some really interesting feedback. If you have any additional thoughts on this, definitely send us an e-mail at news@volunteermatch.org. We want to make finding volunteer opportunities, and connecting with nonprofits, the most enjoyable experience for you. Part of doing that well is exploring how people are using new tools.

I don't think this survey will give a very accurate picture in some areas. For me, for instance, on several questions there were 2 or more answers that were of equal importance, but I could only choose one. On another question, my true answer was not represented.

That is a good point - the survey is meant to capture data that can be measured specifically against what has been written and studied over many years. The top (primary) reason that you do something or choose to volunteer is what is trying to be represented in the final data results... then it can be compared to other case studies and data nationally.
