The six Worcester firefighters who died battling a five-alarm fire in an abandoned cold storage warehouse 10 years ago were wearing what are known as “pass’’ alarms. The devices emit a loud signal if the firefighter sets off the alarm or stops moving for an extended period.

WESTMINSTER -- Wachusett Brewing Company founders Ned LaFortune, Kevin Buckler and Peter Quinn developed "a significant appreciation for beer," during the late 1980s while they were attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute, LaFortune said recently.
