WUSA 9 If you're doing holiday shopping, have you finished it, or will you be out today?

BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- Shoppers house-bound by last weekend's blizzard tried to make up for lost time Tuesday, crowding area shopping malls in an attempt to get their purchases done by the Christmas deadline later this week.

Roy Alan Weidler

Roy Alan Weidler You might have a traffic snow story that affects the disabled. If you go to shopping centers, etc, you will find that the snow is put in the disabled parking spaces. It would be a wise idea to move the snow away from the disabled parking to the outside spaces of the shopping centers Could this violate the ADA regulations affecting accessibility ?

Eileen McCarthy

Eileen McCarthy I appreciated your story on bad sidewalks, but wish you would go further and blast the National Park Service -- the National Mall sidewalks on 7th Street NW (and probably elsewhere, but I didn't risk my life/limb to find out) were a disgrace last night. Also, try walking through the mountains of slush at Tenley Circle..., just a few short blocks north of your offices.

Here in DC, they just dump it into the crosswalks, creating mountains of snow and ice for peds to wade through while the drivers speed by oblivious to it all.

I have been finished since early December. Do most of my shopping online. No parking hassle, push, shove or waiting in line, no threat of getting mugged.

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Scores of DC area homeowners have marked their parking spaces in front of their residences after spending hours shoveling their vehicles out from the record snow. They put in the work, so they feel they deserve to keep that spot. The DC Government disagrees.

I understand your exasperation, but the real issue for drivers who want to park is that you CAN NOT "reserve" a public street space, even if you dug it out yourself. Once you leave, it is up for grabs to the first person who wants it. One of the reasons I hate snow.

i'm gonna blend cynicism and idealism and say that its a little bit of both... a great idea and a gimmick... certainly if this attracts a greater share of the market as demand increases b/c of this gimmick, then it will have proven itself to be a pretty great idea... ultimately, consumer sovereignty rules the day... now, only time will tell.

I think consumers in this economy aren't really gonna bite (pun intended). Unless you have money coming out your ears, a theme isn't going to mean jack unless it's priced right.

ahhh, but remember, there will be some social worker who will say that it's cruel to the child, stunting his/her social growth to "deprive" him/her of her (non)social activity and the child should be placed with foster parents due to child abuse...in this day and age, with Child Services, you're damned six ways from Sunday for "disciplining" ... See Morebecause saying "no" and expecting "acceptable" behaviour is tantamount to heresy...then when your child turns into the next killer at school, you're to blame because you let the child run wild...I don't know when we became a bunch of idiots, because most who are parents now grew up with parents who disciplined, teachers who taught and disciplined, and expectations...although, now that I think about it, apparently that didn't work out so well because we're the generation raising the current moronic thugs with monitors and keypads attached to their appendages...oh, well, our parents probably had similar laments, as did their parents...remember "rock and roll" and the music of the devil; maybe we should all be looking forward to 2012? just a thought (with a sarcastic twist from a parent with a 14 yo who does not have access to Wii, Xbox, etc. and who seems to know what a book is, too, and who does not seem to be any the worse for the "lack" or the expectations)

What a rookie parent mistake. She should have just gave up and went to bed -- now she will (and should) get fined for the 911 call AND she will get fined for the truancy officer having to come to her house in the morning to drag the teenager to school ( about $80 a pop) and she will not get the choice on that one; The officer will come every day ... See Morethe child is not in school and after the 10th missed day the officer will come for her then she will go to jail and the kid will go to juvie.

So I have no idea why she bothered calling 911 at all they will come to her eventually.
