University College - Washington University in St Louis The Link Between Creativity and Madness examines selected literary works through the discerning eye of ordinary reader, philosopher, and psychoanalyst. The class will analyze literature of Kay R. Jamison, Lord Byron, Robert Lowell, Sylvia Plath, and Virginia Woolf, but also become acquainted with their moods of madnes...s as they used writing as a lifeline. Alison Palmer, instructor, holds an MFA in Poetry from Washington University, a B.A. in Creative Writing from Oberlin College, and has poems published or forthcoming in several literary journals.This short course will meet on Tuesdays, January 19, 26; February 2, 9, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Noncredit Fee: $50. #WUSTL #GIS The Washington University GIS Symposium will be held today,
November 19th and features presentations and discussion on technical,
conceptual, and aesthetic applications of GIS technology. Dr. Alexis M. Elward, M.D., M.P.H. and
Dr. Min Lian, M.D., PhD will speak on their work with GIS and infectious
...diseases. Our speakers have extensive experience in using GIS to gain
insight into pandemics such as the H1N1 influenza and West Nile virus.
Their research interests implement several GIS concepts such as spatial
statistics, multilevel modeling and temporal variations. The discussion
of "place" as it relates to timely issues such as H1N1 promises to be
interesting!
