About Us

Washington Adventist Hospital is a 288-bed acute-care facility located in Takoma Park, Maryland. Since 1907, the hospital has provided a broad range of high-quality health services to the community. As Montgomery County’s first comprehensive cardiac center, the hospital performs more than 500 open-heart surgeries and more than 6,000 heart catheterizations each year and is involved in world-class cardiac and vascular research. Washington Adventist Hospital provided over $28 million in uncompensated and charity care to the community in 2008, the greatest amount of any Montgomery County hospital.

Expanding Access

Washington Adventist Hospital is seeking state approval to relocate the hospital near the Food and Drug Administration in White Oak, about six miles from our current location — in the middle of the hospital’s primary service area. The 48-acre campus, which received all land-use approvals from Montgomery County in 2008, will provide better access to all of our patients and communities in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

As part of its Vision for Expanded Access, Washington Adventist Hospital and Adventist HealthCare will create a Village of Health and Wellbeing with extensive health-care services in Takoma Park, including urgent care services, a primary care clinic, expanded educational and other social service opportunities, once the hospital relocates.

The relationship the hospital is developing with the FDA, fostered through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2008, is beginning to yield opportunities for research and further collaboration.
