Seth Schiesel says that "With all due respect to Wii Sports, no video game has ever brought more parents together with their teenage and adult children than The Beatles: Rock Band likely will in the months and years to come." Do you agree?

This sounds more like PR than journalism. But hey, when did anyone serious about gaming ever think to go to the NY Times for genuine gaming news?

The NY Times finally talks about video games when the Beatles are involved.
This Rockband is expensive with only one band!
Also, Wii Sports is certainly more important since you are waving a remote with simplistic controls - something the whole family can do and have fun with.
For Rockband, you have to have quick coordination as you get deeper. - The only way I can see anyone coming together is with a kid playing the game while the parent reminisces...

In case you missed it everywhere else; new PS3 in September. Smaller, lighter, cheaper. $299. Existing hardware drops in price tomorrow.

Looking over the system specs here:

And I must amend my earlier advice that you'll be able to use a flash drive to transfer saves. This doesn't look to be so. My revised advice: e-mail maybe?

Agree wth what Jeremy said above about the overheating...that is alot of unit under a little hood that I hope does not have any problems. Nor worth upgrading from an 80 gb, unless you want more space, but still this is good for Sony now and this holiday season.

I've never understood why you have to unlock stuff like this. Why not just include them from the get-go? Still...we get to do a story with all the codes in it as a result. And here they are.

I was highly, highly appreciative of Capcom's decision not to make me unlock the dozens of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 characters. It's always such a hugley goddamn annoying chore to have to play through some horrible mode to unlock content in a game you paid for.

What They Play We're looking forward to checking out Scribblenauts this afternoon. It's definitely one of the DS games we're most excited about this year.

I expect this is the one game that will motivate my girlfriend to dust off her DS. lol Well, if she doesn't, I certainly will. Wish it were on PC though, I'm not looking forward to tapping out all those words with the stylus.

What They Play Mevo & The Grooveriders - a game that we included in our "giant list of iPhone games" and enthused about on the Listen Up podcast is FREE for 24 hours. It's a rhythm-based platform game, and is a lot of fun, with some great music. Click the link here to pop the iTunes store. (Thanks to Adam Roffel for the tip!)

Behold! The return of the What They Play podcast after a two week sabbatical. In this episode: Madden NFL 10 Wii chit-chat, plus hear John's boundless enthusiasm for both Civilization Revolution AND Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor on the iPhone. Enjoy.

Civilization Revolution is a HOME RUN! I'm not sure about Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor. It looks interesting, but not sure if its something I really want to pay for. May be if a sale comes up. Personally, I'm not much of a Madden Fan, but I do think you should devote the same amount of time when NHL10 launches haha. Finally, a few iPhone ... Read Moresuggestions, although these games have been out for a while. California Gold Rush, and Simutrans. Simutrans is awful, but free. Its a direct copy of the old Transportation Tycoon games. Download it for free, try the crappy controls, and email the developers, so they release a patch! Good show guys, glad to have you back.

I looked at Spider after Nick Suttner twittered about it. It did look tempting, but I'll see what you have to say about it before I decide to put some money down.

I bought Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manner last night and was up playing until well after midnight. The levels aren't too long or difficult (but do have secret areas for people who like to explore) and it has really nice controls. I had fun exploring the manner catching bugs.

What They Play Nintendo sent us the new Professor Layton and The Diabolical Box game for DS, but the game cartridge itself was actually INSIDE a "diabolical box." Took us more than 15 minutes to work out how to open it!
