Want to make something sweet but worried you'll devour the entire pan of bars? I know the feeling. Go ahead and make the bars (or cookies or cake) and freeze 75% of it right away. Put the remaining 25% in a container in a cupboard and set a limit for your daily intake. Or have 1 and give the rest to a neighbor. Th...ey'll appreciate it and it helps to remove tempation. Keep a bowl of fruit on the counter instead.Read More

Giving away some is a super idea, making new friends. You can also investigate some healthier recipes, made some pumpkin bars today, super tasty with veggies, fruit, nuts, and no refined sugars. :)

Why is the YMCA closed on Thanksgiving? On a day where most people eat 4-5 times the number of calories of a normal day, the Y should not only be open but encouraging members to work out, certainly not closing the doors on us. Since I stopped working weekends and Holidays 15 years ago, I've never not worked out on Th...anksgiving morning. Lifetime Fitness is open 5 am to 3 pm and LA Fitness is open 8 am to 2 pm :-(Read More

Hi Carol. We're sorry that you're unhappy about the decision. It was a tough decision. We reviewed what we call "access reports" which tells us the number of Members who visit the YMCA on a given day. Considering the shortened hours for the holiday already, the number of Members who visited was low. Our intent was certainly not to disappoint or... To make the weekend special, we have created a "Take the Pie Off Your Thighs" Open House so you can bring friends and family members to the YMCA on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You won't need to use any of your guest passes. Just remind your guests to bring a photo ID.

Be assured that our YMCA management team will take your comments into consideration for the future. Thanks for letting us know.

First of all - THANKS! We couldn't support our mission without gifts like yours. Do you give to the general fund or to a specific YMCA, Roger? I'll check with our VP of Financial Development about specific projects funded for 2009.

Hi Roger, I see you support the Northwest Y Partners Campaign - thank you! Your support is extremely important to the New Hope community and very appreciated. The 2009 donor report for the Northwest YMCA outlines five critical needs that the Y Partners Campaign supports. You can view the Northwest (New Hope) YMCA page here:

This link will have links to the "2009 Donor Report Card" and "Mission Impact" for the Northwest YMCA.... Read More

Each branch/camp has their own campaign and these funds stay in our local community, to address critical needs and provide scholarships so that no one is turned away from YMCA membership or programs due to financial need. There are also some Y Stories/Videos at http://mplsfd.ymcatwincities.org/YStory

Thanks for your question!

Hi Roger - I don't think Harold is on Facebook. We've talked personally about its importance to our organization so I know he's a believer. I'm checking with his Personal Assistant to see if there are any plans for the future.
