You Don't Look Like a Librarian!
Librarian stereotypes have persisted for generations, yet their practical impact has rarely been studied. How pervasive are such stereotypes in the digital era? You might be surprised!

You Don't Look Like a Librarian! Asylum.com has librarians on the top of their "best professions to date" list. Hm. "She'll be pretty smart about lots of random things, great at Googling
and a good connection for free books. Bonus: say goodbye to those nasty
overdue charges. Plus, everyone knows librarians are sexual dynamos
waiting to explode. Right?"

You probably know by now that Etsy marches to the beat of a different drum, which is what makes it such a unique place to shop. We'd say that Etsy sellers are best described as setting their own trends rather than following them. Today's Etsy Finds ...

HA HA!! Sometimes I like to unleash my inner sadist too. Just the other day I told a law clerk who graduated from HARVARD (as he was sure to tell me) and clerking for a CIRCUIT judge (emphasis on CIRCUIT) beg for the answer by saying, "Librarians rule the universe." Ahhh- the sweet taste of power!!

You Don't Look Like a Librarian! "The future of libraries, with or without books" - http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/09/04/future.library.technology/index.html. The article is actually well-written and does address many of the changes that are happening - but I really don't like that opening line much. (Dank smell? SHUSHING? Argh.)

The stereotypical library is dying -- and it's taking its shushing ladies, dank smell and endless shelves of books with it.

The oft-cited odiferous nature of older library buildings is from dust and mildew (not to mention human odors). This situation was caused by inferior pieces of land being sold to library organizers, lowest bidder construction contracts, and not enough financial support for maintenance from taxpayers.

If by tangible you mean monetary, no. But since I began referring to myself as a cybrarian, it's upped my hip factor w/ our genY patrons.

I'm all for upping the hip factor :-) but referring to yourself as such (I mean, I refer to myself as the Information Goddess and my staff actually call me that) versus your formal job title is more what I was wondering about. I'm quite interested to hear if anyone has seen a fiscal increase with a title change, to be honest!
