Alumnae and Alumni of Vassar College Vassar Leading Producer of Fulbright Recipients: According to the Institute of International Education, Vassar is again among the top 10 undergraduate institutions producing graduates who have earned Fulbright awards. In 2008-2009, 10 Fulbrights were awarded to Vassar alums (out of 42 applicants). Only Pomona, Smith, P......itzer, and Kenyon Colleges had a greater number of successful applicants. Upset that Vassar slashed its rowing program? Here are three things you can do to support Vassar Rowing today:
1. Write a letter or email to Athletic Director Sharon Beverly (shbeverly@vassar.edu) and Dean Rachel Kitzinger (rakitzinger@vassar.edu) and let them know why you're upset by the cut.
2. Call the Office of the P......resident, Dean Kitzinger or AD Beverly.
3. Donate to the Vassar Rowing team's 5 day Erg-a-thon (details at www.facebook.com/VassarRowing).
4. Invite friends, parents and fellow alumnae to do the same!

The Vassar rowing program is unique as it mixes an excellent liberal arts education with the commitment and competition of a varsity sport. Vassar College is part of the Liberty League, one of the most competitive leagues in the area. In the past few years, the top women's 8+ has been ranked among the top 15 Division...... III rowing programs during the competitive spring sprint season. (Men's rowing has yet to become an NCAA sanctioned sport.) In 2008's fall head racing season, the Brewers came away with wins at Head of the Hudson in the Men's 1V8+ and Women's 1V4+, with both crews winning the title of Liberty League Crew of the Week. The following week, the Men's 1V4+ and Women's 1V4+ were victorious and again took the title of Crews of the Week at the Head of the Mohawk where the novice squad got their first taste of competition. Additionally, the varsity team competed at the Head of the Housatonic, and the women's varsity also raced in the Collegiate 8+ event at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston and Cambridge, MA. This spring, Vassar Rowing is competing in a dual meet versus Skidmore and Union, traveling to Worcester, MA to challenge WPI and the local competition, racing in the Liberty League and New York State championships, and finishing the season at the Dad Vail and ECAC Invitational regattas. We are hoping to build our program over the next few seasons with recruits and walk-ons alike. "One of the unique aspects of rowing is that novices strive to perfect the same motions as Olympic contenders. Few other sports can make this claim. In figure skating, for instance, the novice practices only simple moves. After years of training, the skater then proceeds to the jumps and spins that make up an elite skater's program.
