So that was nice, you attempted to answer the questions of some very
angry and disappointed fans. But seriously? No one is buying those
answers. The answer to question 1, "I... Read More’ve
bought an Early Bird ACL ticket every year, but this year they sold out
before I could even get online to buy them! What’s up?", is "S...calpers
got most of them this year." The answer to question 2, "Why are there
2010 ACL Festival Early Bird tickets available on scalper websites?",
is "See question 1." The answer to question 3, "I got the ACL 2010
notification e-mail hours after the Early Birds went on sale! Why so
late?", is "In hindsight, we probably should have sent the email out a
few minutes earlier. We'll try to do better next year."

i seriously doubt that the big ticket agencies got most of the tickets. They weren't easy to get but I got a pair. I have no intention of ever selling mine.

What was wrong with selling the tickets locally? I have been to every ACL fest, the first one I got tickets at a local Albertson's, and a few years after I was able to get in on the early bird tickets. It just used to be easier for folks in Austin to get tickets, but now it's just crazy. Seems like they don't care who buys them so long as they sell.

Tom Moreno if you go to a show and have extra tickets you need to sell, please don't sell them to someone with an "I need tickets" sign. They are scalpers and are just driving up the cost. I saw a girl sell 4 single day tix for Friday to a scalper
for $45 each. The scalper turned around and tried to sell them for $125. Fans
were all over the place trying to buy and the scalpers had all the tix

ACL should realize that none of the loyal fans actually sold any of their early tickets to an agency or broker. I think that ACL (C3) should cancel all of the tickets at this time that can't be validated with a code from last years ticket. There should be some unique Id that limits the number of tickets to any individuals.
I think it is actually ... Read Moreillegal in the state of texas to sell tickets above their face value. Perhaps all of the people selling them on ebay and at brokers at prices above the current face value should be referred to the Attorney General of Texas.

Read this article before you go after ticket brokers. Seems that Arlington is getting tough on scalpers, but legitimate brokerages are springing up to handle the demand.

http://cbs11tv.com/cowboys/ticket.scalping.ticket.2.1139255.html

Frankly this is really about supply and demand. If C3 raised the ticket price so that not as many people purchased tickets, it would take care of most of the scalping issues. In fact, they probably do need to raise the price - a quick sellout says that the price is probably too low. I'm not one to advocate spending more money, but this might well be considered a premium event as compared to other events they stage. If people keep complaining about scalpers and the event sells out fast yet again next year, you can expect that ticket prices will rise accordingly. ... Read More

On a related note, it may be hard for brokers to purchase the major part of 65,000 tickets so that they can drive up the price, but it's possible for them to do it in smaller venues like the Long Center (if you saw what happened for Leonard Cohen earlier this year, you'll understand what I'm talking about). I think that some of the savvier small venues are factoring this in using tiered pricing - and often working with fan groups to ensure that the best tickets go to the most dedicated folks at a reasonable price. This is frankly a better option than allowing ticket sales to be a completely level playing field.

C3 - have you ever modeled this behavior/possibilities and outcomes? I would think that there are some smart statistics/math folks at UT Austin who would be happy to help you out with this.

The e-mail I recieved reminding me to purchase early bird tickets didn't get to my in box till 4:29 PM central time, about 6:25 after it was sold out. Good times. I've attended ACL every year since the 2nd year of the fest. Haven't had a problem getting the early tickets till this year. Clearly the ticket scalpers, uh ...I mean "brokers" got around all the security measures. I'm sure more can be done to prevent this from happening the next go around. How about limiting 2 tickets to a credit card or mailing address instead of e-mail address? I alone have 8 e-mail addresses for various reasons. I'm sure the scalpers have acess to 100's of e-mail addresses.Read More
