American College of Physicians (ACP) New Survey: Will the new breast cancer screening recommendations change your practice?

Nitin

All of us have diagnosed breast cancers before 50. Would you rather catch it earlier and have a "cured" survivor patient or catch it when the best thing you have to offer is hospice. Data by DHHS via US Preventive Taskforce contradicts the data by ACS, which has less government control.

Bill-I am not quite understanding your position. I have had too many personal situations with breast ca detection in women under the age of 45 with normal risk factors that I would not feel comfortable not offering mammo to those under 50. Person experience is the best evidenced based practice.

American College of Physicians (ACP) The ACP Advocate: House's Health Reform Bill Retains Provisions Important to Primary Care

Again the ACP leadership supports a healthcare reform bill that falls woefully short of ACPs stated principles. The SGR repeal is carved out in a separate bill that has already failed once, and there is lip service for tort reform. Our leadership has failed us...again.

I'm mailing my ACP resignation letter today. Looks like we're all on our own from now on. The only way way for us to make any difference is to let the ACP know that if they're govt lapdogs, then we want no part of them. Probably won't make a bit of difference, but at least I'll sleep better at night and can look my kids in the eyes and tell them their Dad stands up for what is right and puts his money where hismouth is.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misunderstanding, miscommunication and misdirection in the healthcare debate. There needs to be sweeping reform. But, one of the central issues is medical school debt. This is the reason why many docs are not going into primary care and other specialties. No one's addressing this issue.

As health care reform proceeds, it is incumbent upon legislators, physician leaders and practitioners, and those responsible for training the next generation of physicians to address the “primary problem” and avoid its becoming the Achilles’ heel of our health care system.

Sigh...This article is silly and sophmoric. It says: "The problem with lack of primary care is that there aren't enough primary care providers, and to fix the problem we need more primary care providers." It fails to address the question of WHY there aren't enough of us primary care docs. Answer: Its a crappy job and its only going to get ... Read Morecrappier as the govt gets more and more involved in managing our careers and influencing our pay through its attempts to put our best payors, private insurers, out of business. The ACP continues to suffer from a severe case of RCI (Recto-Cranial Inversion) which so far seems incurable.
