About Us: IAC is a compassionate and dedicated
open adoption agency. For over 25 years we have advocated fully open adoptions placing nearly 4000 newborns.

Our Mission: The mission of the Independent Adoption Center (IAC) is to provide open adoption placement and counseling to birth and adoptive families to ensure that every child grows up feeling loved and supported.

What We Do: IAC informs, supports, and guides birth and adoptive parents through the process of creating healthy new families through open adoption.

IAC’s professional staff provides support and counseling for birthparents, works closely with adoptive parents throughout the adoption process, and provides ongoing post-placement support and consultation for birthparents and adoptive families.

IAC is focused on transforming lives through open adoption by serving the best interests of birthmothers, children, and adoptive families.

Just posted a note about our day...

Our Kyle’s adoption was finalized on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. It was Santa Clara Counties second year celebrating National Adoption Month. National Adoption Day was celebrated on the Saturday afterwards. Since its inception ten years ago, National Adoption Day has always been celebrated the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving.

From the moment Kyle entered this world we shared every moment with so many people who loved him. His birth parents, they loved this baby so much they thought of his future. They made a very courageous and heartfelt decision to make an adoption plan for him. His birth families, that provided the love and support these young people needed to have the strength and courage to place Kyle with us. Our friends and family who were with us through the rollercoaster ride of infertility and stuck by us through the highs and lows of our adoption journey. And with the Professionals from the Independent Adoption Center who supported Kyle’s birth parents and us.... Read More

We intentionally kept this one-day just for us, The Lasher Family. No fanfare or big party just the three of us. For each family the choice to share the day their adoption is finalized with all who supported them or keep this moment just for them is a personal choice. This was our day, the one day we could say that Kyle would forever be ours. We finished off the day with a walk through our favorite park, which is now Kyle’s favorite park, a perfect ending to a sublimely perfect day.

Shannon My husband and I cannot have any biological children and want to adopt. we were considering doing foster care but have decided for us that adoption would be best. We are already overwhelmed and do not know where to start. We know that we 1st must get a home study done in order to apply for grants to help with the cost but from there we are kind of lost any suggestion.. we will want to adopt an infant or a toddler.

I was asked to blog on another birthmom's website about how important it is to go thru the grief process and not bottle it up (like I was doing) and share some experiences- waiting until Christams before I send my birth-daughter a gift- want to start getting some pics of me from childhood to adult together for her that she can have when she is older

Danielle Riddell I think November is an awesome month! We have been trying to have a baby for four years now and have had no such luck! :( We looked into adoption and are trying to save money back but it might take us a while! We are thinking of fostering first, any suggestions?

I am an author/illustrator and I have penned a childrens book explaining the adoption process from a birth mother's point of view. It is honest, open and heart-warming. I have had many people contact me to tell me how wonderful it is to hear the birth mother's side of the story.

Please pass this along if you know anyon...e that would benefit from it. My in depth story is on my Facebook fan page under Kelsey Stewart, Writer, as well as links that will take you to where the book is available. I have also listed my blog address that is full of more information about my journey as a birth mother.

I hope that this book can help some of you out there,
Thank you,
