As a proud subscriber of both Adventure Cyclist magazine and Vogue, it’s hard not be occasionally bummed out by my (lack of) options for bicycle fashion accessories. I mean, I’m all about rugged adventure, but I want to do it with a little bit of flair! So...

Matt, I got my wife panniers last year and we took a trip on the Gap Trail for 4 days. No car for 4 days, not a bad start.

Those panniers are so cute, I'm putting them on my Christmas list, and I've been good this year. :-)

Whitefish-Eureka-Sparwood-Pincher Creek-Waterton Village-St. Mary. The plan was to do the east side of Going to the Sun, but Logan Pass was still closed due to repairs made necessary by a winter avalanche. So we went ..."around the horn" (in one 100 mile day) to Sprague Creek in Glacier. That allowed us to ride up and down the west side of GTS, which they opened all the way to Logan Pass that morning.Read More

Tracy McKelvey Just finished riding in Maui. Great for miles and elevation. The view is not bad either. 3 rides got me 210 miles and about 14,000 of climbing. That was without doing the big volcano climb.

According to an October 29 story in the Great Falls Tribune, a new crop of National Forest travel plans will ban mountain bikes from wilderness study areas and certain other non-wilderness areas in Region 1 of the Forest Service (Montana and parts of Idaho)...

Cows and horses do far, far, far more damage than any mountain bike trail I've ever seen. This is outrageous.

Winter will be setting in shortly, but that doesn't mean the riding season is coming to an end. While we don't see a lot of people on extended tours through the winter months, there are still plenty of folks hitting the road to stay in riding shape for their early 2010 tours...

This pretty much calls it like it is. I've been riding year around here in Minneapolis, MN for over 28 years, so yes, it can be done. It's never been a better then now with everything they make for it.

I ride all winter too. And yes, the torso is very important. I think I finally got the layering right. I wear a long-sleeve cycling jersey, then a tight thin wool sweater, then another cycling jersey (short sleeve) and last, a windbreaker. This works in temps down to about 32. Below 32...well that's a bit cold for me!

This year, my plan for holiday gift buying is to ' go green.' For some folks, I plan to buy gifts made from old bike parts, but not just for the bicycle enthusiasts in the family. There are countless items forged from bike parts...

I live in Utah and rode from SLC to Yellowstone this past summer. I have a 22/36/46 crank with a 11x32 (9 speed) cog set. I used the low gears all the time, and seldom used the highest gears -- I let God pedal on the way down!
My son's touring bike (which isn't near me at the mo) has a MTB crank with something like 24/36/46 and around 12x28 (8... Read More speed) cog set. It has a a square taper BB so I took off the road triple and threw on the MTB crank. This a a 700c bike, and he never complained that the gears were too low!
IMHO, you'll be happier that you have the lower gears than you will be with the high gears.

I live in Minnesota and have led and ridden a number of ACA's trips in the west. Low gears are important but what I've found is that the altitude is a bigger factor. The only way to train for that is to get out there a bit early -- a few days usually works -- take it easy and drink lots.

the twin bridges cycle camp is a special place, and where good will multiplies. Its a true win-win. Feeling welcome in a small town after hard miles of climbing the rockies made a big difference in my trip.

I was there this summer. Bill "git 'er done" White is amazing. In addition to everything else, he dropped off a coolerful of beer when we showed up after biking seventy miles in the sun.

I have seen that and it is very helpful!! I am wanting to get a bicyclist view of anything special they want. Also, for example if we was to offer Free Ice Cream on a certain, would want to see if anyone would come. Try to get something going where our community could ourselves apart from the rest.
