...the U.S. does not want government owned and controlled media. However the advertising that print and broadcast information is increasingly buried under, leaves less and less room for thoughtful discussion and in depth investigation...On the other hand, state funded and controlled media is equally bastardized...

I think the internet is really flourishing in countries like Russia. People are more thirsty than Americans for knowledge and world news, possibly because it was restricted for so long...and their (former dictatorship) government can no longer control the information that people have access to...
Lets remember too, that the education system in the U.S. especially for children and youth, pays little attention to nations beyond American borders. Many people grow up believing they are in the only country on the planet that really matters...By the time kids become adults, a sizable percentage of them have no interest in international issues.....People outside the U.S. are generally very interested in what goes on around the globe.

As someone who was born and raised beyond the borders of the U.S., I am very concerned about what is happening in the U.S. Freedom, truth, fairness, "checks and balances" and civil liberties must be protected in your country - these are the values that are most admirable and loved by foreigners like myself.

Just goes to show, this is NOT a democracy in which we live. We have no control and suffer roadblocks at every crossing. We are told it is a Democracy and we jump through all the hoops and then we are so simply dismissed. Really depressing, yet we march on (for there is always another avenue) in an attempt to circumvent the SYSTEM. My grandmother used to often say, "It's a great life if you don't weaken." I will never forget that.
