STOP CARD CHECK
Stop the Confirmation of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board
Stymied in their efforts to get Congress to eliminate the secret ballot for union elections, the Obama Administration and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have teamed up with the big labor bosses to impose their will by execut...ive fiat. The issue is whether workers will continue to be protected by casting a secret ballot on joining a union or whether the law will be changed to allow employees to check yes or no on a card handed them by a union organizer.
Obama has nominated Craig Becker, a top lawyer with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Becker says he believes the NLRB has the authority to change the laws governing union certification without the consent of Congress. Thanks to Senator McCain and others, the Becker nomination has been held up until now. On Thursday, the Senate Health Education and Labor Committee voted to recommend confirmation by a vote of 13-10. Reid thought he could ram through the nomination before newly elected Republican Scott Brown of Massachusetts was seated but he was foiled in that attempt when Brown took the oath of office on Thursday.
NOW THE REPUBLICANS CAN STOP BECKER BY VOTING AGAINST CLOTURE (ENDING DEBATE) ON MONDAY IF THEY HOLD TOGETHER OR GAIN THE SUPPORT OF DEMOCRATS WHO CLAIM TO BE AGAINST CARD CHECK

Employers Have No Rights
In 1993, Becker said this in the Minnesota Law Review about union certification:
"employers should be stripped of any legally cognizable interest in their employees election of representatives." Becker went on: "employers should have no right to raise questions concerning voter eligibility or campaign conduct."
In other words, a small business owner who has spent years building up his or her business should have no rights when it comes to one of the most significant decisions affecting the future of their business, even to object to corrupt election practices.
Becker went on to say in that same article that the NLRB should "return to the principle that a union election is not a contest between an employer and the union." Therefore, he went on to write, some proposals could be achieved with almost no alteration to the statutory framework-in other words by fiat instead of legislation. There is every reason to believe Becker would apply these principles to the card check issue, the number one priority for big labor.

Funding ACORN
The SEIU has kept the corrupt ACORN organization in business by giving $8.5 million of its members' money in contributions since 2005. As you may know, this organization has had criminal charges filed against it in a number of states for corrupt practices involving voter registration and unfair labor practices. As one of the top counsels to the SEIU, there is no evidence that Craig Becker ever objected to millions of dollars flowing to ACORN even after a number of its employees were convicted of violating the law.
Becker was also in apparent violation of President Obama's own conflict of interest rules by participating in the preparation of pro big labor Executive Orders while still on the payroll of the SEIU.

Jack Cafferty at CNN this week asked viewers one of his seemingly routine questions. But the responses to: “How has definition of ‘middle-class American’ changed?” reveal a cataclysmic shift in our nation’s economic identity.

Senate Republicans say they will oppose any jobs legislation on a scale large enough most economists say will do real good.
After all, why should those Senators worry? They have a job. For now.
