The search for life beyond Earth has recently intensified upon the discovery of methane gas on Mars and evidence that liquid water was once abundant there. Liquids have also been found on moons orbiting Jupiter and Saturn. Recent discoveries of planets beyond our solar system fuel hope that we will soon find other habitable worlds. Join us for a talk with Professor Sara Seager as she takes us on a tour of the most promising places for life beyond Earth.

In commemoration of the arrival of WFPC2, a camera formerly installed on the Hubble Space Telescope, and COSTAR, an instrument designe...d to correct Hubble's spherical aberration, the Museum will hold a lecture by Astronaut John Grunsfeld, Ph.D., on the significance of the Hubble Space Telescope. Dr. Grunsfeld, a professional astrophysicist, participated in five NASA space shuttle missions in his career, three to the Hubble. He made eight spacewalks repairing and refurbishing the aging telescope and has gained a unique perspective on this spectacular era in the history of astronomy and the space sciences.
