In October of 1957, America had plenty to be worried about. Rock 'n' roll. Television. The bomb. And on the fourth day of that month, the Soviets successfully launched the first man-made satellite, Sputnik, into orbit. The space race had officially begun. The Cold War just got colder. People were unsure... about their neighbors, even questioning their friends. In the small town of Rockwell, Maine, Annie Hughes (voice of JENNIFER ANISTON) is just worried about putting supper on the table for herself and her nine-year-old son, Hogarth (voice of ELI MARIENTHAL). A single mother holding down a job at the local diner, Annie has her hands full with Hogarth's headstrong imagination- always on the lookout for the latest attempted takeover by mutant aliens or subversive invaders.
So when a local fisherman comes into the diner with a tall tale about a huge metal man falling into the sea, the only one to pay him much attention is Hogarth, who sets out exploring to find the enormous robot. What he does find is a 50-foot giant with an insatiable appetite for metal and a childlike curiosity about its new world.
Rumors of everything from an alien invasion to a Russian secret weapon bent on destroying Rockwell soon spread through the small town, prompting the arrival of government agent Kent Mansley (voiced by CHRISTOPHER McDONALD). Keeping one step ahead of Mansley, Hogarth convinces his beatnik friend Dean (voiced by HARRY CONNICK, JR.) to hide the Iron Giant (voiced by VIN DIESEL) in Dean's junkyard.
But it isn't long before the rumors turn into paranoia- the situation escalates and the possible destruction of Rockwell looms. Hogarth turns to his friend, the Iron Giant, who ultimately finds its humanity by unselfishly saving the town's residents from their own fears and prejudices. Read More

When director Joe Dante unleashed GREMLINS on audiences in the summer of 1984, folks expecting a cute Spielbergian fantasy got a nasty shock when those little furballs were fed after midnight, making the film an unexpected hit. So when Dante returned with the friendlier EXPLORERS, audiences were unprepa...red for a sci-fi fantasy that actually encouraged exploration and a sense of wonder in kids of all ages, so it wasn't the hit it should have been.
Even so, EXPLORERS remains not only one of Dante's best movies, but one of the best fantasy films of the '80s, and this opportunity to revisit the film with its target audience - kids! - should prove that point. The film is genuinely enchanting, very funny, and it doesn't talk down to kids or try the patience of adults...making it the perfect Kid's Club experience!
Featuring aliens, Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix (in their film debuts) along with Dante regulars Robert Picardo and the greatest actor of all time: Dick Miller.Read More

During Buttnumbathon this year, one of the standout favorites was 40 unfinished minutes from the new opus UP from the geniuses at Pixar. Even with temporary still images and incompletely rendered animation, the entire audience knew that this was a classic in the making.
Apparently, so did the folks at the Cannes Film ...Festival. The world premiere of the film is at Cannes on May 13. UP was chosen to be the opening film of the festival, the first ever animated film to be awarded that honor.
A few lucky folks in Austin, however will get to see it even earlier! On Saturday, April 18, Ain’t It Cool News, Fantastic Fest and The Alamo Kids Club are hosting a free sneak preview screening of UP at the digitally retrofitted Alamo Drafthouse Village. We have 50 tickets to give away to the Kids Club Facebook group. Please RSVP on this page and indicate on the wall how many tickets you would like. Priority goes to people who are bringing a child so please indicate whether you will be bringing a child in your wall post. By the end of the day on the 15th, we will post to the event wall and the Kids club wall the final ticket winners chosen at random from those who sign up.
If you don’t make the list, we will have a small standby line on the day of the show. Please note that this will be a digital 2D presentation of UP as the 3D effects are not yet complete. UP opens nationwide (and at the Village) on May 29th.Read More

Armed only with the delusions that all his amazing feats and powers are real, and the help of two unlikely traveling companions—a jaded, abandoned housecat named Mittens (voice of SUSIE ESSMAN) and a TV-obsessed hamster named Rhino (voice of MARK WALTON) -- Bolt discovers he doesn’t need superpowers to be a hero.
