All they need to do is ask people who have been owned by pets all their lives. When everything feels like it's in hell, i just look at any of my 3 dogs or 5 cats, and see heaven in their little faces.

Shar, I hope many, many people read your blog on Facebook! You are so right!!! People don't think...or care. It breaks my heart to see so much abuse and downright evilness that is done to animals all over the world. We ALL need to become vegans. We ALL need to stop the sickness.

No guilt here Kelley, whatever that means. I understand what PETA is 'trying' to say, it's their angry tactics and badgering to get people to be and think like them that's confusing and offensive to me. I don't like it, and I think it's wrong, that's all.

Marsha-- your local shelter has adorable puppies and young dogs-- I am sure they will have a Bichon for you -- so many people abandon their pets -- young and old pets -- abandoned pets that deserve a better life than one that could end on a stainless steel table in the killing room.

In fact, 25% of the animals in shelters are purebred.

Look in your local shelters and save a life.

Yep - you definitely have to take the way your pets feel about traveling into account. For me, things are the other way around. I hate traveling, and the dogs love it - car rides and new places to sniff.

American Humane Association American Humane began doing animal relief in August, 1916, by accepting an invitation of the War Department to help animals used by the U.S. Army during WWI. The invitation resulted in the development of the American Red Star Animal Relief Program known today as Animal Emergency Service.

There was a story on our local news tonight where Animal Shelter in Prichard, AL was neglecting the animals, not cleaning cages, neglecting the dogs & cats, and letting dead animals just stay in cages -filthy conditions. The news story prompted lots of calls & emails and reporter went back out there today (unannounced) and found a new manager (a nice young man) and cages were all clean, so were animals. A wonderful story of how public outrage caused the city to get their act cleaned up.
