I think everyone, even people who would never be deployed-- needs to learn Basic First Aid for humans of all ages, and animals-- plus CPR, Heimllich, and how to use those heart paddle kits that most of the office bldgs now have. It would be a tremendous help -- even if you never use it, you KNOW about it, it and it boosts your confidence and ramps up the mindset.

Truly, we are all connected. Not to go off on a tangent but does everyone here know basic First Aid? Do they know how to perform CPR and the Heimlich Manuever? Good idea to find out what the Good Samaritan laws are in your area too.

American Humane Association As the Haitian orphans arrive in Denver-- http://www.denverpost.com/frontpage/ci_14261006?source=email, we are reminded of the kindness and generosity of the American people. As we openly welcome some of the Haitian orphans into our nation and into the Denver community, American Humane encourages us all to remember the... 100,000 American children who are legally free to be adopted, and the over 500,000 children who on any given day live in our foster care system. May our hearts, minds and energy go toward finding them forever families. Did you know that American Humane has been helping children since 1877?

When I was a kid, being beaten, having my toys broken, being made fun of and insulted/cursed at by my mommie dearest (sis had the same treatment too -- everyone was afraid of mom) when she was in her evil mode -- I was told "Don't tell ANYONE what I am doing to you!" And truly, I knew if I DID tell someone I'd get beaten even worse.

In fact, the kids who lived across the stoop from us were beaten savagely by their mother -- everyone could hear their screams -- and my Mom sed to me "See-- THEIR mother beats them even WORSE than I do - so don't complain!"

I think it is REALLy true that the healthiest person in an abusive relationship is the one being abused-- they KNOW something is wrong and they WANT to solve it.... See More

And I truly belive we are all greater than ANY evil that can ever happen to us - abuse included. So THANK you American Humane and ALl the people who helped me (many of whom were also being hurt, in a busive relationships) on the road to healing.

It is very true that the healthiest person is the most abused within the family. They speak the truth. As they say, "You are only as sick as your secrets". Everyone else in your family was sick. Not you!
