Hello to all of my fellow AmeriCor Youth Employment Specialist!! I'm looking for some ideas as to how to make an AmeriCor presentation informative, simple, and inspiring! I'm sooo glad I joined AmeriCor. But, the organization its self is incredibly complex and I'm trying to figure out how to communicate it in the "comm...on vernacular" of my teenage audience! :) So ideas would be greatly appreciated! I noticed you posted this like 2 wks ago but.... just in case you still could use some ideas... here's a link I've found very inspirational. :) Also, if you've found some recently as well, I'd love to accumulate some more ideas! :) www.teambuildingguide.com/icebreakers/

Thanks for the great site, Angela! We've done tons of teambuilding energizers. We did one where there was a "grid" (composed of pieces of paper) on the ground. Our Program Mgr had a set route that he wanted us to take. If we took a wrong step (that didn't correspond with his set route) at any point, then we had to get off the grid and the next ... Read Moreperson had to try. To twist things up after a
certain point, people were told not to look, and others were told not to listen. Everyone had to attempt to "crack the code" and get through the grid once it was cracked. It was a great teambuilding exercise and everyone worked together. Everyone helped each other out, especially helped those who had been told not to look, or listen. Hope this makes sense!

For kids or adults??? I used sponge bob and mini marshmellow target practice exercise.../or the "name game" might be better....take all the name tags of students and let them radomly pick them lable side down & hold them to their foreheads and try and guess whose name they have without telling the other person which on they have. They have three ... Read Moretries, with one letter hint from the person accross from them. then they have to retire the name tag face down on the table, if they guess correctly, one face down tag can be laid face up and theirs can be placed face up, it gets harder as the tags are laid face down and there are less points of reference for illimination. They have to work together to figure it out without saying 'what they see' . Only guessing aloud what they think there tag on their own forehead says to the person directly across from them.
I am interested in knowing your results and what mental gymnasitics where used by the students. Did they sum it up by process of illimination or realized whose name they had by getting information from the hint the person mirroring for them gave.
NOTE: this game works better if the name tags are in plastic holders. Not 'sticky back' name tags :)

Hi, Sally! Do you want to stay in the Seattle area? I have a new half-time (900 hours for the year) AmeriCorps position here in St. Joseph, Michigan serving to expand my youth volunteer recruitment program...

Hi Sally! Have you found a place?! There's a position open at the Columbia Basin WorkSource for a Youth Employment Specialist. Though it's several months later since you've posted this I thought a suggestion still might be of use JUST in case. :) To get more information on the position contact Robert Brader, Coordinator of WA AmeriCorps, #360-486-5905. If you've already made other plans I hope these are working for you! :)

Roxanne Fritz in Doddridge County West Virginia started a pet food pantry to help senior citizens and low-income families afford their pet food in emergency situations. We give about 4.5 pounds per dog and a little less than 1 pound per cat. We do not have an open animal shelter in our county to take pets to when you ...can't afford them and with the economy, people are struggling. We hope we are helping people be able to keep their pets and keep them fed. A survey revealed that out of 86 families we helped that had 240 individuals between them, 35% we kids under the age of 18 and 15% were seniors. We need a lot of pet food and donations to keep running, it cost about $350-$400 a month to run the pet pantry. If you have any ideas or suggestions to help, please share.Read More
