Amherst Survival Center Valley Festival Brass has staged a comeback that continues this year with a Sunday, Dec. 13, 6 p.m., concert at the First Congregational Church in Amherst. The 25-member-strong brass choir will perform holiday favorites and lead sing-alongs at the church at 165 Main St. Admission is free with donations accepted to benefit the Amherst Survival Center.

There was an overwhelming amount of goodwill expressed toward the Center, much by business people who have for a long time supported the community by supporting our work: The Pub, Zannas, Atkins Far...m, TD Bank, The Toy Box, Integrity Builders, and more...We are so grateful for their support!

Amherst Survival Center Demand for help with basic needs such as food, health and clothing always seems to increase in the holiday season. Yesterday we had to increase clinic hours to handle the case load, we had two full seatings at lunch with many people standing, and the food pantry had steady business that went beyond closing time. Our w...onderful staff and volunteers as usual stepped up with grace and energy.

Amherst Survival Center Dental care is a major challenge for people who are uninsured or who have Mass Health. I learned from someone eating lunch at the Survival Center last week that to get dental care she had to take 4 buses to Holyoke, a trip which at it's best takes 4 hours round trip!

Amherst Survival Center Today 11/25/09 is our Thankgiving meal @Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Pleasant St., Amherst from 1-3. All are welcome! This is our major community event of the year, with attendance at around 200. I'm always in awe of the incredible collection of staff, volunteers, participants and supporters that have made the Cente...r amazing community that it is. Amherst Survival Center Study shows that "food insecurity" in the US is at a 14 year high. This is consistent with our own stats, which show a 17% increase in use of our food pantry since last year.
