Just a note from ModernConservative.com and AnyStreet.org to serve as a reminder that the Cap & Trade Bill made it through the House on Friday, 6/26/09 by the narrowest of margins.

Now we are already hearing that, “This has almost no chance of getting through Congress”, from various politicians and pundits in the media. Even Harry Reid thinks it’s a long shot to get through under his watch. So much so, that the vote is being put off until perhaps September.

BEWARE! This is the type of thing that keeps people from becoming active! The complacency this breeds will most assuredly keep people from acting until it could be too late. This is not the way we should be thinking if we want Cap & Trade to fail. We cannot sit idly by for the next 8-10 weeks and just assume that this will get killed in the Senate. LET'S MAKE SURE IT GET'S KILLED IN THE SENATE!

We are asking you to be vigilant. Stay on point. Stay focused. Keep spreading the word about how bad Cap & Trade will be for our economy. Senator Reid implies that the vote may not come up until September – but we must remember – this is the same Democratic party that dumped a 309 page addition to the bill into the hopper while everybody slept at 3:00am the morning of the House vote. They are not above these tricks – so we must keep fighting and spreading the word.

Use the tools ModernConservative and AnyStreet have provided and will continue to provide to help you in this fight. For those of you that are active on this, we thank you for your hard work. Keep spreading the word about the fallacies of Cap & Tax, get others involved – share the contact lists we have provided. For those of you not active, search our pages, gain insight and gather the tools you need to help fight Cap & Tax. NOW is the time for ACTION!

Thanks, and we’ll see you on the battlefield!

It was a great day for a flight from NC to Chicago - I had my bags packed and was wondering what book I would take on this trip to pass the time, and perhaps gain some enlightenment. I settled on "Guilty" by Ann Coulter. Thinking ahead, I took the cover off the book to avoid any unwanted confrontations - Ann can be a bit polarizing, as you know. I was off for the airport, looking forward to a nice flight.

I got there early, so I could get through security and the usual inconveniences we now deal with as a result of the 9/11 attacks. I got to my gate and began reading. I got through several pages, then started laughing out loud at some of the passages...this grabbed the attention of a few sitting close, and I caught a sneer from somebody who could see Ann's name at the top center on the left page. No worries...I just kept my laughter to myself...

We boarded the plane shortly thereafter, and I found myself in a window seat about 11 rows back. My book was safely stowed away, when a gentleman that appeared in his mid 30's took the seat to my right - right next to me. I recognized him. He was the same individual that had given me the "sneer" mentioned before in the gate area. "Great", I thought. "This should be enjoyable."

Once we took off, I proceeded to take out Ann's book and started reading where I had left off. Now I was on the Jack Ryan scandal, I couldn't control my laughter...this woman can write. I caught another nasty look from my new friend to my right - and then he did everything he could do to turn his back to me while keeping his seatbelt fastened. This gave me a direct line of sight to what HE was reading. I couldn't make it out completely, but it was something about "The New Green Economy". I sighed - aloud.

My new (now, my new LIBERAL friend) turned to me and said, "I don't see how you can read that in public." To which I replied, "Oh, you don't read Ann's stuff? You really should try it sometime. It's pretty lighthearted and, THIS one...this one? It's definitely worth a look." He rolled his eyes at me, and I just shrugged my shoulders and picked up where I left off. He turned to me again and pointed out that, "That woman is just mean...just mean. She has such a closed mind, and I imagine anybody that reads her stuff has a mind just as closed as hers."

Well, I wasn't sure exactly how to approach this, so I simply said, "Well, I'll tell you, friend, I'll do you a favor - I won't read it aloud. Will that work?" He actually got up to look for another seat. Pity for him, the carbon footprint per person on the flight was at a minimum - the flight was full. He continued his attempt to bait me into an arguement with the typical liberal diatribe. I was sure I could have given him a verbal beatdown, but I didn't bite.

I asked him why he was so irritated that I was reading this book, and I let him know I had no intention of putting the book away now. He told me that he found the entire thought of somebody buying one of her books completely disgusting, much less reading it in public. This was getting old - so, I simply put the matter to rest by stating, "Perhaps you would rather have me read the Constitution, but you would probably find that equally disgusting. Lucky for you, your man Barry is changing it on a daily basis, so I wouldn't have been able to get a current copy, anyway. Just enjoy the ride into O'Hare, and look forward to your connecting flight to Seattle, okay?"

To which he replied, "How did you know I was going to Seattle?"

I simply pointed to my book.

We landed at O'Hare 10 minutes later...and I left one confused Liberal behind.
After so many years of Freedom; doing what ever we wish, living our lives, spending our money and enjoying the basic rights given every American - have we become complacent? In the past few months, we have witnessed our government step in and take control of banks, car manufacturers and now they have their sights set on our health care. Yet, few of us protest. Why is this?

My belief is that the mass media plays a large role. Although they are not solely to blame. As we are in control of our own minds and therefore, our thoughts, beliefs and actions. We, as a nation, have become relaxed. Too relaxed, in my opinion. We have let the government slowly change things...at such a pace, that the average uninformed individual sees no change in their lifestyle. This breeds complacency. Incremental change is what we, as free-thinking Americans, need to beware. This is how the government slowly takes control of our lives. With each Presidential whim and a fast following Congressional vote, we are slowly losing our individual freedom.

If you should like to buy an SUV to haul the family to the great outdoors - you are seen as a huge consumer of energy. If you would like to receive a bonus for a job well done, you are looked upon as greedy. Should your children have the desire to pray in school, they are deemed religious freaks. Would you like to see our country protect itself from radical Muslims? Sorry - you'll be seen as a racist. Disagree with Mr. Obama? Again, racist. Would you like to join others with your same values and opinions about the current state of our country? Watch out - you'll be labeled a "Tea-Bagger".

There is a safe haven for those of us that have become active, and not complacent, with regard to our country's health. It's called AnyStreet. And you found us for a reason. You may sign up with us today, with others that hold the same values and concerns as you. Please sign up at http://www.modernconservative.com/email_signup.php . We will be bringing more of us together, with your help. If you agree that we, as Americans, have become too complacent, then please join us. You will find yourself empowered, and you will be doing the right thing not only for you and your family, but for the country.

AnyStreet.org welcomes you!
