OutSync is a free Windows application that syncs photos of your Facebook friends with matching contacts in Microsoft Outlook. It allows you to select which contacts are updated. So you can update all contacts at once or just a few at a time.

The main benefit of OutSync is for Windows Mobile users. Updated contacts are automatically synced with Windows Mobile devices by Exchange server or ActiveSync. Thus new and fun photos appear during calls and other places where contacts are used.

OutSync is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Server 2003. It requires Outlook 2003 or 2007.

Nearly useful

Without the ability to match FaceBook names to Outlook contacts manually, this product drops from being really useful to basically useless.

I'd be more than happy if I could spend 30 minutes matching up the rest, and then it would be great. I'll try to keep checking back to see if it gets there.
Nice when it works, but some contacts missed.

Nice, but doesn't match all my contacts. The names in Outlook match the person's name in Facebook, and the e-mail address shown in Facebook info box does match an e-mail address in one of the e-mail fields in Outlook, so I don't know why it's not picking the matches up. It would be nice to have a user facility to match up names when the program fails.

I can understand cases where it's failed where a Robert in Outlook is a Bob in facebook, but I've also found an instance where one of my friends recently gained her phd, so I changed her "title" field in Outlook to Dr. which was the one thing that confused this application! Deleting her Dr. title fixed the problem. I suspect other users may have used the Mr. Mrs. fields and this might be why it's failing for them. The program should ignore the title field in Outlook really.

Also, the option for "Save my login info to avoid logging in to Facebook again to use this application." doesn't work, i.e. if you check the box then the next time you open the application no saved details are there.

Misses matching many of my friends. No ability to fix problems in matches. When it works it is really cool.
I like it...but it crashes during sync
by Ryan at 7:32am on August 7th, 2008
I like this a lot but it crashes everytime I press the sync button! It still syncs photos SOMETIMES but something isn't working quite right...
Crashes

The UI looks good but I can't get the app to work. When I hit the sync button it crashes. Time for some trouble shooting.

Hi,
very useful tool this. I'm using my iPhone and sync my outlook contacts with it. However, I which that I could control how big the picture imported into Outlook would be. They are really tiny right now. Great tool though!

Is it possible to override 72x72 limitation on outlook contacts? Pictures look pretty bad when synced to smartphone.

Does OutSync "sync" based on names, ie: First name, last name, phone numbers or is it solely based on email addesses?

I have many contacts who I keep in contact with on Facebook and via telephone but with some folks I don't use traditional email..... Does this mean that I need to get my friend's email addresses for Outsync to work with them?

Wow! Totally awesome. It definately needs some more features though. Birthdays, phone numbers, address and stuff like that should be synced too. And autosync.
