To swap, place the tiles you wish to exchange anywhere on the board and click on the SWAP button. This will replace those tiles with new tiles randomly drawn from the bag. Swapping tiles costs you a turn.


In case you cannot play a word or need to wait for your opponent to open up the board, you can PASS you turn. Please note that 3 passes each will end the game in favor of the leader after adjusting the tiles left in hand.

If you think you have lost the game and there is no way to catch up with your opponent, you can resign or give up the game. This action cannot be reversed and will show as a loss on your statistics. A game may be resigned any time by any player.

The game ends when one player finishes all the tiles in their rack and none are left in the bag. In case other players have tiles remaining in hand, they cannot play them. The combined point value of these tiles is deducted from the player's score and added to the opponent's score.


Example - The scores are 250 (opponent) and 260 (you). Your opponent plays a word and uses up all the tiles. So if you have a Q left in hand, your final score will be 250 (10 points deducted) and 10 points will be added to your opponent's final score.


Please note that the game also ends if each players passes 3 times in succession.

In case you started a game by mistake or do not wish to play for some reason, you have the option of deleting the game. To do this, click on the TRASH CAN icon at the top right corner of the board. Please note that if 4 or more moves have been played, you shall not be able to delete the game. Deleting a game does not affect statistics.

The TWL is primarily used in the USA and Canada, while SOWPODS is the international word list. Click here for more details. Please do not ask us to add or remove certain words or why some words are allowed and some not as it is beyond our control.

If a player has not made a move for 7 or more days, the opponent may claim a forced win. This is to prevent quitters from taking advantage of the system by opting out of lost games. You can claim wins only on inactive games. In case you are going on a vacation, please notify your opponent so they don't force wins.

Please see the master settings page to configure Scrabulous. You can toggle online status, numbered board, choose default game settings and more. You can change the settings any time you want.

You may choose to type in long words via the keyboard. When it is your turn, click on an empty square on the board and a black horizontal arrow will appear (clicking twice will make it point downward). After that, just type in your letters on the keyboard and then click on PLAY to submit the word.

To shuffle your tiles, click on the shiny round yellow button just above the rack. You can sort the tiles alphabetically by clicking on the green button, while clicking on the blue button will clear the tiles on the board in case you change your mind. Check out some of the other cool options!

To win at Scrabulous you must use the special colored squares wisely. During a game, right click on the board and choose NUMBERED BOARD.

If you use all 7 letters to make a word, you get a bonus of 50 points! This is called a Bingo. A wildcard or a 'blank' tile may be used as any letter you want, so use it wisely. Only two blank tiles are there in the bag.

The NUDGE button on your active games page allows you to send a quick message to your opponent in case you want to remind them of their move.

Want to improve your game? Try out Scrabulous against the computer! You can either play by yourself or against our robot.

You just need to upgrade the Flash plugin. If that also fails, then please get the Firefox browser and use that to access Scrabulous.

The new tiles or grey tiles that you place on the board must be connected to each other either horizontally or vertically.

The words are scored perfectly and there are no bugs. To double-check, please right click on the board and choose NUMBERED BOARD.

To ensure that you have a 'Play Scrabulous with me' link on your profile page:


1. Click on the APPLICATIONS link in the left menu.

2. Now, you will see the Scrabulous application in your list.

3. Click on Edit Settings.

4. Make sure that the Profile link option is checked and click on Save.

5. Go to the Scrabulous page.

6. Click on the button for adding the link.



If you are using too many applications, the link to Scrabulous may be found after clicking on 'more' in the left navigation bar. To bring it further up, click on APPLICATIONS and then re-arrange them.

We are working on this problem and will fix it shortly. When it is fixed, all games played in the past will be taken into consideration. All the bingos that you have played shall also be recorded.

On the New Game page, you have a box that lets you type in the name of the friend you want to start a game with. Enter up to three names in this box to play a game with all the names you entered.

You are unable to invite friends because your browser does not support this feature. Please upgrade your browser.

In a REGULAR game, the computer shall automatically reject words that are not in the dictionary. In case you play a word that is invalid, you will get another chance. There are no penalties and the dictionary may be consulted.


In CHALLENGE games, you can play a phoney word and it is up to the opponent to "challenge" the word. If the word is challenged and found to be invalid, you lose the turn. The dictionary is not available to players in a challenge type game.

You shall soon be able to play rated games of Scrabulous. Everyone will start with a default rating of 1200. If you win games this rating will increase. It is currently under testing, so please check out the rating system page for more details.
