Between 2000 and 2005 the average amount of power used to fuel servers within data centers doubled. In the United States, that represented a 14 percent annual growth in electrical use, while worldwide use increased by about 16 percent every year.

Facebook is the 7th most visited site on the Internet so its servers burn more energy than most large corporate data centers.

Just think about all the times you and others view your profile. If you can eliminate 10% of your profile's current electrical demand for every visitor, think of the kilowatt hours you could save in the long run...

Certify that you are aware of your profile's energy usage by adding an eco-stamp to your profile. Get as many others involved as you can to raise awareness!
