Wish I was there, Robyn. I'm just re-reading "Worth" and I remain blown away by your intense imagery. It's like reading poetry and watching a brilliant movie at the same time. In fact, it's made me want to shoot my own short imaginative movies.

Wow ... now that's a quote! I wonder if I'm complicated enough to feel insulted by that?

Taken in context, it isn't as obnoxious as it seems in the rather... provocative excerpt above. The passage verbatim is: "I especially like to write as a man. You know, because I think men are absolutely fascinating creatures, but also very simple creatures, much simpler than women." This is course a generalization, and like all generalizations isn't very perceptive. I wonder if she would have said it if the interviewer :-) were male.

Maybe she just hasn't met the "right sort of men," i.e., complicated men who read books. Or maybe it's a ploy to get complicated men who read books to read her take on what "a man writes like." At any rate, Henry James and I are rolling in our graves. No. Sorry, not dead yet. Have to remember that!
