Around the Great Lakes Paddled for the first time today, since I pulled off of the trip. I could definitely feel that I'm not at 100%, but it felt good to paddle. Lake Superior is cold at about 40F due to a major upwelling of deep cold water in the last few days.

I'm Glad to hear you are back at it. I was worried about you since we didn't hear anything from you for so long. Take care of yourself! The lake will always be there when you're ready. If there is anything we can do just let us know. We're there for you.

I planned this trip to take advantage of small towns with post offices and grocery stores within blocks of the shore or harbor and each town is located about 10 days of travel away from each other. The grocery stores allow the basic menu to be varied and supplemented as desired...

I would like to recommend to you: The Little Cookbook for the Great Outdoors by Linda Darling and Suat Tuzlak (Rocky Mountain Books, 1984). Linda is a friend of my wife and as a clinical nutritionist and kayaker her recipies might be a little more appropriate for your trip. Keep your paddle in the water!

Around the Great Lakes Still trying to fight the tendinitis. I was hoping to get back on the water this weekend, but the left arm isn't ready yet. It's a little strange after living this expedition over and over in my head while planning to have my body decide that it wasn't go

Bryan, the year I cancelled my trip after only 1 1/2 days I was feeling the same as you. My solution to that sad feeling was to meet with Ken Sutherland and paddle/camp Lake Winnipeg (Black Island) for a few days. Give yourself time to heal then go off and do something to make it better. Prep yourself for next year to try it again.

Hi Bryan: I'm so glad you stopped and accepted the situation. I'm sure the grief at losing the expedition for this year is difficult to walk through but will help for future endeavors. Humans are so 'conquer and win" minded, when our strength (IMHO) is flexibility and adaptability. I am convinced that this situation will help you with future expeditions and guiding others in their kayak journeys.

One more comment...I continue to languish here stuck on dry land while you paddle to your hearts content. This image reminds me so much of my trip last year. Thank the gods I will get to do another 1000-kms next summer.

Just got back. We ended up picking a spot near Bying Inlet that was a safer paddle due to the bad weather this weekend. (Cold/Wet/big waves). I give you lots of credit for paddling in the big stuff. My skills are not ready, but I am working ont it. Be safe !

Day 10: I covered 24 miles from Bayfield to Saxon Harbor today and found wi-fi at Saxon Harbor. Over the weekend, Ilena came to visit in Bayfield. We drove to Ashland and stayed a night in a hotel, did chores, and resupplied with gear. It was hard to see her leave in my car on Sunday afternoon...
