Grahame Shoesmith

Grahame Shoesmith The first book by Asimov I read was Foundation, which was given to me by one of my high school teachers. I now have 51 of his books on my shelf, including some of his non-fiction. Definately the best author of all time...Would be nice to see a screen adaptation of the Foundation series though..Any thoughts on that??

A screen adaptation of the Fundation series would more successful than any other adaptation made from a book series like The Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. However, there's a trend to destroy the pure spirit of the stories when a guy tries to make a film based on them. Since you have to "compress" a million zillion lines into 3 movies 2 hours each, there'd a lot of things left behind. I bet many many Doc's fans would not like that.

I just finished Robots and Empire and it brought me to tears. I would love to see a film adaptation along the lines of LOTR. Preserving the spirit and the detail of the stories. I vote Brad Pitt for R. Daneel Olivaw! And Clive Owen for Elijah Baley. :-)

Laura Woodswalker Did Asimov make a MISTAKE?? I just read the story Nightfall & thought of a problem. The whole world is panicked & civilization collapses when there is a total eclipse every 2500 years?? Well... a total eclipse doesn't occur over the whole planet!!! Just a small section. So it doesn't make sense. At least one of the SIX... suns would still be shining on other parts of the planet. Those parts would carry on just fine.

Not only that, but the eclipse path wouldn't cover an entire half of Lagash anyway. And in the rewrite (why did they change the names of all the planets and stars!), Dovim/Beta rises in the west (establishing the direction of rotation for Lagash/Kalgash), while a few pages later (on the opposite side of the planet), while Dovim is setting (... See Morelogically in the east), Onos/Alpha rises in the east - exactly how does the planet turn for THAT to happen?
But other than total scientific screw-ups, it's one heck of a great story! :)

"Nightfall" is a brilliant short story. But it is Science FICTION, not a lesson in astronomical physics. Lighten up and enjoy one of the finest short stories ever written.

I agree, the story and the character reactions are more important than the physics. Plus they thought a planet like we live on couldn't possibly exist, so who's to say theirs can't?! I loved that story. It helped me when I was suffering from PTSD. Would anybody like to see a "good" film adaptation? Not that horror show Roger Corman made. Ben Browder and Claudia Black would be perfect for Theremon and Siffera, imo.

No, I did not know that about the Yes song, and that is one of my favorite songs. I have heard it a million times, and never knew what it was about. I love the version on the live album "YesSongs". "Close To The Edge" and "And You And I" are both fantastic.
