"Having worked for a private company for 10 years, I was interested in working for a public company. My first career was in accounting with some finance, and I found that I was enjoying the finance projects more and more. Therefore, my focus in obtaining my MBA was finance. After completing my MBA, I wanted to find a job at a company where there were abundant opportunities for learning and for advancement. I preferred a large company to be able to get exposure to several businesses.
"I was impressed with the investment AT&T makes in developing general managers and finance leaders. Through these programs, the company exposes you to various areas and people throughout the organization.
"The most exciting part of my experience has been the variety of projects that I've been able to work on and the various people I've met - from FLP interns to the CEO. I still continue to be impressed by the FLP and its emphasis on continued education for its participants through T University, free subscriptions to key business magazines, and support for the CPA and CFA professional certifications.
"My manager has done a great job of exposing me to various areas of the business, as well as introducing me to key leaders within the Finance and IT organizations. Through these activities, I am learning more about AT&T's businesses, building my network, and learning what skills to focus on to succeed at AT&T.
"With hard work and dedication, I hope to progress through the management levels at AT&T. I have a career path mapped out. However, using my experiences (both before and after joining AT&T), I am further refining my interests and skills. Never let your mapped-out career path stand still! Constantly check it against what's valued in the company and externally in the market, as well as how your interests evolve as you live your life. Career plan development is a large focus of the FLP. I am impressed with the emphasis on both peer-level and executive-level mentors and plan to take advantage of both."
