Bill Freehling Berkshire's board recommends splitting the B shares 50-to-1 even if the BNSF deal doesn't go through, an SEC filing shows. Looks like you were right on the money in your Bloomberg column on this subject, Alice. I gave you some props in this column:

GS needs some good press. The question is: Why did they blow this opportunity?

A. Robert Greitens

A. Robert Greitens Watched you on Taking Stock with Pimm Fox and I thought you made a lot of sense about Buffett and came across as an ethical person. Also, I thought your comments on Buffett's reasons for buying North Western were very insightful.

I see your rationale for the 100K but if it makes Warren feel good, so be it. I do agree with you it will be great if "Buffett would share some specifics about how he pays his employees because they're an excellent example for other companies to follow".

Alice Schroeder now getting a lot of really touching (and some sad) stories about good people on Wall Street who agree it's hard to make a living there legally, and either left or have found some way to insulate themselves.

make less money, pass on promotions or opportunities, work for smaller firms etc. to some extent i think there is an element of kidding yourself to believe you can be in the business with no pressures whatsoever, but there are people who are trying to find a way.

Babar

Babar really nice article. well written. can't say I agree with all the points you used to build your stance, but an entertaining read nevertheless.

There will always be people with good and bad values. Greater family values are important but rational economic incentives -- as manifested in the structure of the law -- even more so. I don't think Kravitz viewed the fact that the IRS let you deduct debt expense but not equity as a moral issue.

Incentives, incentives, incentives.

Hi Karen, you know you are right in a sense (AIG, anyone?) although as a former auditor and analyst, have to say that I have personally never seen a business or company where the incentives are worse than on Wall Street. Or where it is harder to succeed if you behave ethically. There are plenty of honorable people on Wall Street but they're at a disadvantage compared to the rest. I got so many emails from people on the Street who agreed with this column...
