U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. Moriarty attends the first Fulbright Alumni Association of Bangladesh (FAAB) International Conference in Dhaka. FAAB members also presented papers on the theme of “Development: Tradition, Transition, Transformation” during the conference.
Sixteen participants from Bangladesh parti……cipated in the SUSI program May 28 through July 16, 2009. They were hosted by two Institutions: Green River Community College, Seattle and University of Alabama, Huntsville. The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders (SUSI) is an intensive academic program funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State. The purpose of the program is to provide groups of undergraduate student leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States, while simultaneously enhancing their leadership skills.
Ambassador Moriarty attends the graduation ceremony for 59 new Naval Commandos at the Bangladesh Navy Special Warfare and Diving Salvage Center (BN SWADS) at the BNS Issa Khan Naval Base in Chittagong. U.S. military and Bangladesh Navy jointly lead the specialized training on counter terrorism and combating piracy, maritime, and coastal threats. This training demonstrates the United States Government’s commitment to Bangladesh and to regional security by promoting military-to-military relationships throughout Asia and the Pacific.
Ambassador Moriarty meets with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and her delegation visit the shrine of Sufi Saint Shah Abdul Latif Kazmi, Bari Imam, near Islamabad, Pakistan.

AMERICA WEEK RETURNING TO RAJSHAHIDHAKA, NOVEMBER 18 – Continuing a tradition of outreach across Bangladesh, the U.S. Embassyis sponsoring “America Week” in Rajshahi in early December. America Week highlights the important tiesbetween the people of the United States and Bangladesh by taking U.S. Embassy activities to t……he people outsidethe capital. This will be the second time that Rajshahi hosts America Week. Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal andSylhet have hosted past America Weeks.This edition of America Week features presentations, outreach and site visits showcasing U.S.Government-funded programs in Rajshahi. Visitors will have opportunities to learn more about studying at aU.S. university, applying for a U.S. visa, or participating in a U.S. Government development project. TheEmbassy is also sponsoring screenings of critically-acclaimed American films.Following a tradition of past America Weeks, people can visit more than 40 booths run by the U.S.Embassy, USAID and its development partners, and some U.S. businesses. The booths and many presentationswill be at the Parjatan Hotel. More information on this year’s America Week schedule will be announced soon.

American Ceramic Artist Ramon Camarillo visited Bangladesh November 6-14. His skills and refining techniques in the art of raku and pit-fired vessels are unique; the method of throwing a 25-pound bag of clay in a single wheel session into a pot defies the typical limitations of clay in size and thickness. These forms c……an reach as high as 32" and the walls can be as thin as 1/8". It is quite a surprise to pick up one of these beautiful artforms, as they are always surprisingly lightweight.
