I've just read this and feel quite strongly about it therefore I have to put my ten pence in. I work for a Barnardos Sexual Exploitation Service and I can hand on heart say that the majority of the young people I work with are in families in which they are not 'fixable', they have and are continuing to have vast amounts of time and money from ... See Moreprofessional to help them but sometimes people can't or don't want to change (usually as a result of their own childhood experiences.......the cycle). The children brought up in these families have little chance of changing their lives and the cycle continues......if they were removed earlier in childhood they would have had the opportunity to be fostered/adopted into families which would love children and help them achieve their full potential.

Children's homes are wonderful places for those with nothing; yes undesirables get throught the staff system at times...that is human nature and all is being done to stop this but the staff I work with are AMAZING and do nothing but care for these disadvantaged children but.............they would not need to be in a children's home if they had been removed at a younger age.

We as a society don't wish to adopt/foster adolescents with a difficult history but there are many people that would take in a baby, a toddler, a young child. A secure attachment at this age can make all the difference and give a child the best possible outcome. We, the social care system, the government, need to be brave and make difficult decisions at an earlier stage.
