History
Tribeca, also written as TriBeCa, is an acronym for Triangle Below Canal Street. This encompasses the area south of Canal Street, between Croadway and West Street, extending south to Vesey Street. Tribeca started out as a NYC’s first residential area then transformed into a commercial center in the mid-1800’s. However, by the 1960’s, many of the businesses moved out, leaving a lot of empty space which attracted many artists to the area, transforming it to an upscale residential area that it is today.
