The mass production of electric vehicles (EVs) requires mass production of the batteries that power them. Now and for the foreseeable future, the state of the art is the lithium-ion battery, which has raised a host of questions about the availability of lithium.

A terrific announcement. I was wondering "Where is Yellow Cab Company?" It strikes me that the easiest way to introduce electric cars is as taxicabs. A busy cab in a large city can run 24 hours a day and rack up 300 miles/day easily. Based on an average battery change time of five minutes with each vehicle needing three changes per day, I estimate... See More that a single battery changing station could support 100 taxi cabs in 24 hour per day use. You probably need an inventory of 200 batteries to support the 100 vehicles.
This kind of roll-out is small enough to manage, has a terrific impact by removing the most polluting cars from the road, is easy to extend and will make terrific copy for every sort of news outlet.
